Fix it right, don't wire around problems .Originally Posted by ventexan
Thanks, Rovel. Still Couldn't open the thumbnail but nevertheless, I am almost certain where the trouble is by reading the prior posts. I can open my trunk electronically but manually. In other words, I connected a wire to the trunk mechanism directly and ran a wire from the battery and placed a button inline that activates the mechanism. Been like that for a couple of months. My main problem is no power to taillights! In summary, no center brakelight, no rear running lights, only one reverse light. All other lights work. Bulbs are fine, tested them and actually lit them. Turn signals and emergency flashers are fine. But now, today, 2 of the 3 rear headrests refuse to go down! I hear the mechanism activate but they dont go down. Is there a way to manually make them go down? I love this car but am at my wits end with these little details...

Hi all,
My trunk works fine since I fixed it. But sometimes it takes two pushes to close it. It will make that distinctive sound when first pushed but won't close. Clicking the second time closes it and there is no that sound. I am worried something is not engaging properly and wondering what can be done now before it breaks.

Where are you on fixing it right and returning the wiring to the original configuration?Originally Posted by Rovel

unable to open a 2008 Mercedes E350 sedan trunk manually - battery works but can't access with key or remote or interior switch

There is a "trick". You have to turn and hold the key, and then use the handle. The key does not open the trunk like most cars.
If that still does not work, then you have a mechanical failure in the handle latch assembly.

I tried everything - I turned the key to the left which locked the handle - then all the way to the right and pulled handle and did not pop open - guess it's a visit to the dealership - thanks

There is some discussion that if teh glove box is locked, then even teh manual key is locked out.
Try opening your glove box. Seems weird, but worth the effort.

Thanks - glove compartment is not locked - but will try opening that when I leave from work tonight to see if that might be the trick.
