oil weight & MPG
Had oil change in my 2005 CDI, Guy put in Mobil 1 15-40 weight. Wish he had put in 0-30 or 5-30 w. Wondering if anyone has experience on oil weight & MPG? I would expect a lower MPG when the engine is cold with the higher weight. Any comments ?

It should probably be 229.5 for your car (229.51 for diesels with particle filter).

oil
I know they put in mobile 1 but I am not sure if it meets the spec. Any thoughts? I thought about bringing my own oil but he said he has what I needed.
I would do it myself but the deisel oil is like ink, no jack stand positions, ramps I have are a bit low

There is no Mobil 1 15-40 weight, there are 0, 5, 10 -40 weights, and 15w-50, at least in the US.

The only oil that will drastically improve MPG is Royal Purple, everything else is snake oil by comparison. I've gotten on avg 2-3mpg from doing engine & diff with RP on multiple different benzes.

I have had very good luck with Elf Excellium 0W-30 in my 06 CDI. It meets MB page 229.5 specs and is approved MB. My milage increased about 2 mpg over Mobil 1 5W-40.
Make sure the oil you use specificly meets 229.5 or you are on your own as far as Mercedes is concerned.

I'm sure Royal Purple is very good oil but it is not approved by Mercedes.

You should note that Elf has changed its company name and is now Total. The new name for the oil is Total Quartz Energy 9000 0W-30. I have ordered Elf and the last time they shipped Total. It's the same stuff. The container is marked MB229.5.
