NAV LCD damaged
Not sure if anybody is interested but ... Few months ago I posted here that I cleaned my LCD with windex (no ammonia). The LCD lost on a big part of the surface the anti glare laminate and when switched off looks bad, it looks white in the middle like it would have tones of scratches. When working is not too bad but still visible big time. So, I went for my first service and the dealer claims I damaged it, is not covered by the warranty. Now the thing is that in the manual it doesn't say anything how to clean it or not clean it! I checked before cleaning. It tells you how to clean the leather, the dash, the exhost pipes etc .. but NOTHING about the LCD. So... I hope nobody else will do this...
cheers!
cheers!

Its the amount of rubbing and the pressure as well as the type of cloth. FYI, Windex is NOT a reccomended cleaner for Anti Reflective eye glass lenses, so it probably shouldn't be used on the screen in the car.
I dampen a soft cloth or tissue with a little water & gently go across the screen in a horizontal motion.

anti reflective coating on W211 Nav screen is bad. It'll rub off with water and microfiber cloth. You can rub of the whole thing then put a plastic LCD protector on. There are many companies such as BoxWave that sells plastic cover for laptop etc, just cut it to the size of the Nav screen.

I just went through the same thing on my W211. The previous owner had cleaned the screen enough to where it looked cloudy. So I cleaned the screen with some soapy water and a microfiber cloth and it got a lot worse! The antiglare coating on the LCD isn't very durable, that's for sure. I wish the owner's manual had a good solution for how to clean it so that it didn't get damaged so easily.
What I ended up doing is removing the antiglare coating. What worked the best is something called Nevr-Dull. It's a can of chemically treated cotton (?) wadding that I've used to clean the plastic parts of my pinball machine. Really. With a little work, it stripped the antiglare coating right off. Then I purchased some anti-glare screen covers from nushield.com and popped one in. It looks a lot better than it did before although the screen may be a teeny bit dimmer. I'm guessing that the nushield is a bit inefficient in passing light and therefore looks slightly dimmer.
Before you put the screen protector in place, make certain that everything is clean and dust free. Any little bits of dust on the inside of the protector seem to be very visible, so spend an extra couple of minutes cleaning up before installation.
It's not a perfect solution, but for $8 or so you have a solution to the issue that is probably better long-term than even the original Mercedes screen. If the nushield gets dirty or scratched, another $8 will get me a replacement.

I thought of doing so... The screen is like the privacy screens on laptops or is a film type, very thin that attaches on?
I found companies on the web that can reapply the antiglare. the problem is that you have to unmount and send them the screen. For less than 100$ you get it brand new...
Thoughts?

The nushield is actually a piece of flexible but somewhat stiff plastic with anti-glare coating on it. It's a bit bigger than the LCD bezel and curved on all the sides and is thin enough to fit between the screen and the screen bezel. So it's actually pretty easy to insert and remove if you need to do so.
I'm honestly really happy with the way it looks. My wife commented on how it looked like the LCD screen was brand new and it really does look good. The only give away is if you look really really closely at the screen, you can see teeny little dust particles caught between the nushield and the LCD screen itself. But that's getting right up next to it and giving it a good close look. From normal driving or passenger position in the car, it's almost impossible to tell.
Of course, YMMV and all that. But I think if you take your time on removing the anti-glare coating, you should be happy with the results after putting on the screen protector.

buzescu: You're very welcome. I don't remember where I got the Nevr-Dull, but I would think that a well-stocked hardware store should carry it. It seemed to strip the anti-glare off pretty quickly. My only tip would be to find something soft but firm to use as a tool to push the Nevr-Dull wadding into the corners of the screen a bit.
no_mulligan: Yes, I used the '07 E-350 shields. When you get them, they are too big for the COMAND screen but don't panic, that's by design. The instructions are pretty good, just take it slow and work the shield into the space between the screen and the bezel.

Nevr-dull is also sold at boating supply stores, as it was originally a polishing wad for polishing brass. I used it plenty while in the Coast Guard on brass belt buckles.

I'll post my opinion when I get it done!
I can clean the antiglare very easy if I spry windex and use paper towel. The paper towel is a bit rough and it probably acts as a sand paper. I just can't believe MB is not getting a better LCD.

I stick to the same procedure I use on my computer LCD screens .. damp cloth. Thats all you need. Don't use Windex or anything else even soap.

Cleaned my COMAND screen with Windex and watched in horror the antiglare coating being eaten away. Decided to remove all of it and got DayVue from Nushield - this product is amazing. It practically restored the look and feel of a brand new screen with an added protection. I don't see much diff in the screen brightness. Make sure to remove all dust before installation. Installation is different than the regular Nushield product, DayVue is somewhat sticky and cut to exact dimensions of the COMAND display.

After reading this I just ordered the nshield myself after noticing some cloudiness on the screen from someone trying to clean it.
I just got an 06 E350 so this sounds like a good option to protect the screen.

I had a ***** of a time installing this dayvue stuff. I can't seem to get it on without any air bubbles. I have installed many things like this on other devices without any problem, but for some reason I can't get this stuff to go very easy at all..
