Good replacement tires??

Our Michelin Pilot HX's on our '06 E350 are pretty worn at 29k miles. Whats a good tire in the stock 245/45-17 size? The Pilot HX's are WAY overpriced, I was thinking the Continental ContiProContacts that are stock on other Mercedes(like my C300). Theyre almost half the price of the OE tires too. Any suggestions? thanks.

It depends on what characteristics are most important to you. If you like performance, I would reccomend the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec.

Michelin Pilot or Continental ContiProContacts both work, I have had really poor luck with other brands of tires on the Eseries MB.

I recently slapped on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and love them. Pretty quiet tires on the highway and they really grip the road. They are quite expensive though.

Yeah, I want to stick with brands that are OE on Mercedes. My mom drives the car, so shes not looking for any sort of performance tire. I think the ProContacts are the best bet, theyre pretty quiet and smooth on my C300.

In that case, I would also give the Michelin Pilot Primacy a look, it is OE on a lot of their cars right now and I have heard many great things.

I wouldn't get the primacy. They are on eternal backorder for the rear of the 203 C class. At least where I am at.

I was worried about the ProContacts on my previous E bc I was never a big fan of their stuff. They are actually pretty good though.

While it is concerning to hear that the Michelins have worn out at 29k I would stick with the Michelins. I just replaced the OEM Conti Touring at 31000 miles. The Contis were out of round, noisey and followed highway grooves. The Michelins are much better. You get what you pay for.

Untertürkheim-Regarding the Pilot Primacy--MB does use them, less than they used to in past years though. Ive been researching on tirerack.com, and the Primacy's got a horrible rating, especially in the noise department. They're also quite expensive. Thanks for the suggestion though.

MBNUT-yeah, the Conti-tourings have gotten terrible reviews. The Conti ProContacts on the other hand are getting pretty good reviews. My C300 came with ProContacts and so far theyre quiet and smooth. Did you replace your TouringContacts with the Pilot HX Michelins?

Pretty much I'm just deciding whether to get another set of the OE Pilot HX's are go with the much cheaper, longer life and better reviewed ProContacts.

I am thinking about the Yokohama Avid H or V4 for my E500. The reviews on Tire Rack were quite good but my experience over the years has been the Michelins have had the least problems - especially out of round isssues.

The Pilot Primacy is not that great a tire, however the Primacy MXV4 is an amazing tire.

Those are on my W203 C240 4MATIC. While they aren't the Yokohama YK520's that I had on my previous car (great value, outstanding grip especially in wet, comfort...just too loud), they are extremely quiet, comfortable, and have pretty good grip. There's definitely some side-wall softness in hard corners, but overall the grip has been decent.

I do miss the Yokohama's though...the wear was amazing, and they were never out of round. They do tend to track a bit on grooved freeway pavement. I think I got around 60,000 miles on both sets on the previous car.

Yes I did replace them with the HX's we'll see on how ling they last. Other that that risk and the cost I'm very happy with the way they drive. Get the ProContacts and we can compare. I don't think the Primacy MXV4 are available in the 245 45 17 size
