2008 E350 4MATIC SUSPENSION NOISE
(2) While driving over a bumpy road there is always a terrible loud clunking from the suspension. It sounds almost like the balljoints are loose. It does not sound as bright that one would suspect something hitting steel on steel. It rather sounds like excessive play and a muffled low frequency rattle.
I took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. We took a similar car on the showroom floor for a test drive and it sounded even worse.
Is this a know condition? Is there a remedy? I am ashamed of taking passengers who normally praise the car due to the noise.
Thanx

Hopefully I'll have an answer Monday, but at this rate I'm not counting on it.
After much complaining to the service advisor, they looked at my suspension today. Turns out the problem was a loose seal around my left front shock. They didn't have the part in stock-- will be getting it from NJ by tomorrow AM and I should have my car back tomorrow after work.
Definitely ask them to check out your shock/seal around the shock. I suspect we had similar problems-- the parts are probably from the same production batch.
I picked up my car this afternoon. According to the service sheet I received the dealer had to replace the left front strut, shock and mounts-- basically the entire shock and strut. Good news-- no more noise going over the speed bumps.
