Question for you experts

I put 20's on my E320 and it seems like the car was raised when the wheels got installed. i wanna lower the car by gettin aftermarket springs. i dont have airmatic on my car so my question is to you guys. If i install aftermarket springs will the car just lower or will the wheels be touching the suspension meaning the wheel weld? any advice.

It won't touch your wheel well as long as you have the right sized rims, tires, and rim offset.

Can you share?

t-
the car will not have raised simply by switching to larger rims....unless an error
was made in the selection of the tire size.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

enter your stock tire size into the above calculator. then, change the variables
on the output side to 20" so that the circumference is less than 1.5% or so.
is this the tire size you have on there now with your 20 inchers?

generally speaking, the popular lowering springs will lower approx 1.25-1.5"

how long have those wheels been on the car? If you've only just put them on, there is a good chance that the car hasn't settled yet. Also, w/ 20"s the board members who have them tell me to keep pressure in the tires higher 40psi and check regularly.

With those tire sizes, the diameter is now about 1" taller than OEM. You are about 1/2" higher from the ground. To keep closer to OEM and keeping the same width, you should be running 245/30/20 in front and 275/25/20 in the rear.

...but since they are now oversize, wouldn't they fill the gap more?

Typically, yes. I am not sure what is going on with the OP's car unless in the picture, like AMGTestDriverNJ was wondering, the wheels were just put on the car and the springs have not settled.

ill keep that in mind when i need new tires but they are practically new since i just got back from iraq and my brother was the one that put them on for me in march, so the car can settle by the time i got back in june.

So do you all think i should lower it. since the front wheels are an 1" taller than oem like u said, if i lower it would i have any problems when turnin, meanin rubbin of the tire?

The springs definitely should have settled by now.

Visually, yes you should lower it.

Will there be problems, I can't say. I am relatively new to the 211 so I am not sure. I know there are others here running the 1" taller tire specs. Maybe they can chime in. I kept mine at OEM diameter specs to avoid issues.

I have another car that I run 20s. On those, I have 1" taller specs and am lowered. For that car, I rand slightly more aggressive offsets so I modified the fenders and wheelwell to minimize rubbing. Still, on big enough dips at high enough speed, I will still rub the top of my wheelwell. I don't also make full turns as the front will rub a little. There is a price but for that car, I was OK with it.
