Just bought an E

Hello everyone, i'm new, and Just picked myself up a 2005 E320. Hope to learn alot from ya guys!

Couple questions:

I have the LCD Comand screen. The dealer (private non Benz dealer), says there is no navigation module installed. So when you hit the NAV button, the screen displays "Navigation not available". I am guessing I need a navigation module? Is this something that can be obtained through another vendor other then the dealer?

Second and more important question to me. What do I need in order to get my iPod hooked up to the sound system? I have been reading the boards and I think I need some sort of iPod module?

I appreciate your information.

Both the nav module that goes in the trunk and the I Pod kit are available from a dealer. You may be able to find used ones if you scrounge around but there would be no gauantee that they would work, particularly if you purchase from E Bay. I would get quotes for both from a couple of dealers including the installation. There is some software changes required for at least the nav to have it work in your car. This too would be included with a dealer install and only a dealer can accomplish this.

What would the Ipod upgrade/installation cost. My system has an aux selection, just no plug in for the ipod. Thanks.

You should have an aux plug in the glove box, however the Ipod kit uses it and another wire must be added that goes from the front to the rear of the car. The Ipod kit uses the MFD display in front of the driver and the buttons on the wheel to control it. I forget how much I paid for the install and kit but it was not really that expensive. I am located in suburban Philadelphia where in PA are you. There is also software that must be installed. My E is also an 05.

Im in York, PA 20 miles south of Harrisburg, about 1.5 hour drive from you. I'm gonna look a little closer for the plug, i'm not too concerned about having the ipod display in front of me or the steering wheel controls, I would be happy just being able to control it from the iPod itself.

I have heard of some folks just plugging in the Ipod with mixed results. Some have experienced audio issues. I am not certain but I believe that there is more to it than plugging in to get correct audio, Look on the upper surface of the glove box for the outlet. As I remember it should be in a recess. If you can have a look at a dealer/factory install. I think you will like it and, as I said its not real expensive. I know York quite well. Did lots of business there in my younger years. Are you near the York/Thomasville Airport (Drag Strip?). I would guess that the closest MB Dealer would be in Harrisburg.

The Audio-In jack is in the inside roof of the glove box, if you know what I mean. Open the glove box, crouch down and look up inside - it's just a 3.5mm audio jack.

I play my Sirius S2 through this, just leave the unit sitting on the ashtray cover. Audio cable just sticks out, with the glove box closed. Never had any audio issues, perfect.

MB Ipod intergration will link up to your Ipod to the MFD in the center of the Speedometer. There is also non-MB Ipod module that will hook to the big color LCD screen in COMAND - TuneTime (sponser on MBWorld) has a YouTube video demonstrating this (YouTube user ID is Jaybells I think - you can see it in action)

Welcome to the board you guys!

Do not know about all W211's, however my 05 does have this. Perhaps it came with the HK sound system package, do you have that?? I have had my 05 since feb 05.

Yes, I have the HK system. When I get a break, I'll go check out the "roof" of my glove box. That will be cool if it's there. This is a new to me (2 weeks ago) car , so I'm still learning where things are and how things work.

LOL, it took me about 2 weeks to discover I had a 6 disc CD changer, then another week to find out where it was .

Folks are pretty helpful on this board.

Too funny. I had mine for about a week before my 15 year old made that particular discovery. We were both sitting in the car, playing with buttons and settings, when he pushed that magical chromed bar. We both exclaimed "Whoa!" at the same time.

I see by your signature line that you are WAY ahead of me on the mods.

You may want to logon and register your car on the mbusa website. Once you do that, you should be able to download an owner's manual for your car. Then it's happy reading and discovering!

Hope this helps.

I found it. Very cool. I went to Target and picked up one of these:

So far so good. If anyone has any advice for tucking the wires away so they are not seen, let me know? Thanks.

One thing I forgot to mention is that with the factory/dealer Ipod kit the Ipod charges when plugged in. This will not happen if you just plug in the audio to the aux jack.

Does someone have a link to the factory/dealer Ipod kit so I can see what it looks like? Also what is the cost? Thanks.

I searched for it and the articles send you to a dead link at the MB website. Seems they would be proud of this capability, but they seem to be burying it.

Try the MBUSA web site. Retrofit install and kit price will vary from dealer to dealer. Visit a couple and get some estimates.

Here is what it looks like hooked up to an iPod. It is just a wire and connector:
http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2...ctor.html#more

A search of the forums will tell you that different dealers have quoted very different prices to several members. Your best bet probably is to contact a couple of dealers in your area to see what they say.

Hope this helps.

Yep there's a MB dealer in Harrisburg, technically Camp Hill. Although equidistant maybe the MB dealer in Lancaster, PA.

Its lots more than a wire and a connector.
