What package E 350

I am concidering going from a 06, 350 to a 09, I am curious as to your opinions concerning Sport Package,(with/without 4 Matic, or the E with/without 4 Matic. I intend to test drive both of these vehicles, but would appriciate your input. I like the 7 speed in the current E.

Thanks RL

Package II, Sports package only if the black wood looks good with the interior color you choose. The Sports Pkg is nice and its free, but the black wood is not as rich looking as the brown wood, especially when the sun hits it. I wouldn't have the black wood with any other interior but Ash (gray)... and oh yeah... get the wood steering wheel. It feels great in your hands.

Just my 2¢ .

I completely agree on the wood, only get the black with the grey interior. The burl walnut looks amazing with the two tone interiors (which are the best part of the e class). P2, leather (of course, required for 2 tone anyway), and RWD with the 7 speed unless you really need AWD. There are a number of other very nice options too.

Panoram sun roof and side blinds if you live in sunny states, and 4matic if you live in snow states.

Yeah, good call on the wheel, Barry. THAT'S on my Christmas list!

Sport Package:
Consider the task of washing your sled...the wheels that are standard with the the '07's Sport Pkg are really hard to clean.
The ride's a little lower too, giving it a nice profile.
You'll get the chromed exhaust tips.
And, the glass all around has a very-faintly blue tint. (I'm only able to see mine in the rain.)

My W211w came with the designo Burl Walnut as an extra option (I didn't order the car). I think it was about $400 extra. I agree the black wood looks a lot like plastic. The other thing I don't like about the sports package is the staggered wheels. You can't rotate the tires. At the time I got my E350, every one on the lot had the free sports package. I didn't really want it. But I didn't know this at the time and didn't have time to order. To get the color combination that I wanted, the dealer had to trade with another dealer. It seemed at the time that all E's in Florida had the free sports package.

Yeah... I've got the staggered set up on my car too. It doesn't make much sense to me for the type of car it is and its probable daily useage. Its one of those "sporty" things that looks good & agressive on a list, but the loss of the ability to rotate tires, and the supposed shorter tire life because of that, makes it kind of silly. ..The front tires are $265 a piece plus "installation", the rears probably more.

I would rather they went back to having the word "sport" on the side moulding just forward of the front doors, and kept the wheels all the same size.

Thanks for the responce, the other question is who has gone from the 7 speed trans to 4 Matic 5 speed and is there any real noticeable difference, like I said I have the 7 speed and it is smooth. Hope to test a couple this week, thanks again.

The wood steering wheel certainly looks very nice, but that's the only option we did not order for our wagon. My Jaguar sedan came standard with a wood wheel, and the downside is that (a) they get a bit slippery (even though the hand grips are still leather, you still have to use the wood parts to make a turn), (b) whenever I take the car in for service, I have to put a cover over the wheel so that someone doesn't scratch the wheel with a ring or a watch (this is even more of an issue if you let valets park your car), and (c) they get a lot hotter than leather when parked in the sun.

Interesting... I got some thin plastic disposable steering wheel covers from the body shop because I was concerned about greasy hands (gloves) touching the leather portions of the wheel. Some hand cleaners can remove the dye on the wheel and also erase the "crinkled" effect stamped into the leather. (Both occured on my '04, but that car was in the shop a great deal of the time). The wood and its clear plastic coating are very substantial.

In New Jersey a 4Matic would be advisable. I never had a rear wheel Benz, but our rear wheel BMW was a serious Biatch if we even go dusted with snow. It was useless. The 5 speed on the 4 Matic leaves alot to be desired though.
Sport package is included with most of them now for free I belive (it was on mine). The Pana Roof is pretty nice too.

I'm with you on this one. I made my dealer look for a brown wood interior (I have tan), so I ended up with the sport package, but with the designo wood and wheel. It looks nice. The black wood with the tan interior was absolutely awful.

The 5 speed is not so smooth. My biggest complaint on the car.

I agree, 5 spd is not smooth, more jolty, torquey, and aggressive (especially in sport instead of comfort) in my opinion, but I like it that way. The black wood looks excellent with gray leather. 3 of my uncles have 07's, one with tan, one with black, and one with gray and I don't really like it on the tan or the black.

From what I can read about the '09, definitely get AMG package, leather, and P1, and wood steering wheel. If you have money to spend get the P2 and pano roof as well.

If you don't need the 4matic, don't get it. You lose a lot of MPG because of it. And no offense, but I don't like that little 4matic emblem on the right hand side of the rear of the vehicle.

Lol, just noticed something funny. When I clicked to check box the sport package, it said Premium II is included with sport package, .
