On CLK, AMG CL-1s look as good as any other rim. Plus, it's not outrageously expensive.

Hey guys,
I haven't done any suspension mods to the car. It could use a little drop, but I'm not going to tinker with it at all. I love the way the car rides as is, even though it would look sick with a drop. As far as why I picked theCL-1 piece, I had a basic idea of what I was looking for. I walked into Globe and told the salesperson, Jeff, that I wanted to get 19" AMG's....today without using spacers at all. I was really eager to get the wheels because the stock 16"s gave the car too much of a parental look. Jeff basically showed me what AMG wheels i could choose from....there weren't that many to choose from. I went with the CL's because I thought they'd look sick on the car. When my car was driven to the front of the shop, I thought "damn, that looks pimp".......and judging from the feedback from other drivers, from black guys in H2's to old men in S500's, and enthusiasts such as yourself, I think I made a good decision.

Very true....my bill of sale:

AMG CL 19x8.5 $344/each
AMG CL 19x9.5 $355/each
Pirelli 275/30/ZR19 $333.95/each
Pirelli 235/35/ZR19 $312.00/each

my total was just under $3,000.00

Question for you wheel experts.

I have a 2003 E320 with the standard (and not too good looking) 16-inch dual 5-spokes with Pirelli 225/55 R16s. Didn't want the full sport package but was getting the E-class sport wheels (5-spoke as shown in the brochure) with 245/45 R17s. Those wheels are delayed and I believe the dealer is offering me AMG 5-spoke 18s that he can get instead. My other option is of course to wait for what I originally ordered but it could be a while. I wanted 17s because they look a lot better and I thought the ride quality would still be good.

How much difference will there be if I go with the AMG 18s and the corresponding tire in terms or ride and noise? Is there much of a difference? I'm not planning on sticking with the 16s anyway so it is the difference between 17s and 18s I'm interested in. The post earlier in this thread of the platinum blue with 18-inch AMGs is just what I'd end up with and I think they look great.

Are you going to change your suspension? The plat blue you are talking about is my car and it has a special sport suspension to make it accomodate the bigger wheels ... I have no noise what so ever but my ride is stiff - stiffer than my friends E240 elegance.

Muhri2, the only thing that would be changed on my car is the wheels and tires. I've actually been quite pleased with the suspension that comes with my car already - it feels nice and tight.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
One more time....WHICH

CL wheels, as in which offset? Am I correct in assuming that you are using the same wheel that goes on the W215, or is there a different spec (offset) than the W215 CL wheel? Thanks for the specifics, I need the help as I want to get a set of these together...thanks.

Suspension

Hey Stevo, did you lower your car? It looks pretty good. How big is the gap between the fender and the tire... Do you have the air suspension, if not, did you change the spring pad? I have a E320 black on black just like yours and I am interested in putting the exact same wheel. But I am not sure what I want to do with the suspension...

Hey Pete,
The suspension is bone stock...no air...no springs...no sport...the gap is visible, but it's not bad enough to where it's needs lowering. Of course it would look pimp with some suspension mods, but I like the way the car rides...despite having the 19's, the car still feels like it's rolling on clouds.

Man, that's some fast reply.... Thanks! I think that's what I will go with. You don't happen to know the offset of the wheels do you? Thanks for answering my questions, by the way!!

I went to Platinum motorsport in west los angeles. They told me that the wheels would have to be taken to a machinist in order to fit my car. I told them i'd think about it. On the way home, I saw Globe Motorsports and decided to go in. I went in and told the salesman I want 19" AMGs....he said "no problem, these two are you choices".......direct bolt on, no spacers, no adapters....the wheels are designed for the CL pictured below. We were going to throw them on the 600 just to see how they looked..but we didn't.
