Advice needed. 08 W211 Bluetec, E63 rims

I am putting the E63 rims on my bluetec, I can't stand the look of the stock 16's. I am trying to make up my mind between going with 8.5's all the way around fitted with 245/40/18 or going mixed; 8.5" rim w/245/40/18 up-front and 9" rim w/275/35/18 in the back.

I was looking for feed back from members here and those who currently have 275 out back with correct offset of 39.

Thanks in advance.

Mercedes of course says those rims aren't compatible with your car.

Unterturkheim...

Look, I asked a simple question. Why is it that when a new forum member shows up, the existing forum members have to revert to grade school type tactics. I appreciate the help, but I would have thought you could reply in a more welcoming manner. I already determined that the rims will in fact fit, a front suspension modification is recommended. This by NO means suggests that the rims won't fit. The suspension issue is up front, my question had to do with the rear axle. I don't even care if the suspension needs to be changed out; it’s not that big of a deal. I just really don't like the look of the stock rims.

My QUESTION was not whether they fit or not, but for experience from those running 275 out back, uh... the REAR axle. So, if this is your style of welcoming people, keep it. I don't need it. This just adds more fuel to fire of stuck up Benz drivers. I can read German and it does not state ANYWHERE in your document that they won't fit. In order to be approved by TUV, the mentioned modifications need to be made.

Are you that hard-up trying to make yourself look or sound better by trying to make others look stupid? In addition, it would seem your German translation skills need a little work. Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house.

I will take your little abbreviation, STFF and use it in my reply, if you don't have anything productive to offer in a manner conducive with a more user friendly forum, STFU!!

Kind regards,

Baron11

I don't think he was trying to be rude. STFF is an acronym thrown around on forums asking to do a search before asking a question, as the same question may have been asked.

Although, the first "F" in this case could be taken offense to, I'm quite certain it was made in jest. You could substitute, "FLASHY" or "FUNNY" or "FANCY" if it makes you feel better.

Lots of educated members here and this place can be a huge repository for facts about your W211 or any other MB you may own. And by no means are we all "stuck up Benz drivers". I own 3, and those that know me on here would say quite the opposite.

Welcome.

Good luck with your E63 wheels. I have a set of P30 E63 wheels that I use as a winter setup on my E500.

Easy there turbo. Nice way to welcome a guy to the forums. Might I suggest a cup of coffee this fine morning to take the edge off?

He asked a valid question. Just give the link and be on your way....

Thumbs up Thanks for the welcome, really.

I am glad I came back to read what others had to say.

Wow if you are using the E63 amg rims for winter what in the world are you using for summer? How do you like the AMGs? Any problems or concerns? I had BBS CHs on my M3 and loved them, but, to me, they just don't look right on the E. So far the rims on the 08 E63 look best to me.

Bryan

I really like the AMG P30 E63's, but I LOVE the VIP Modular VR-05's

No concerns with the E63 wheels. They're great. Just make sure you're getting OEM and not replicas.

Enjoy them and post some pics!

Since I am also a Bluetec owner, I did not even think of the new E63 wheels; I think they look great. The new ones are light-alloy in tintanium grey. I don't know the exact weight; anyone know where I can find wheel weights? $2800 shipped for all 4 OEM 2008, is what I just found out. Not sure if its good or bad; sounds quite reasonable to me but I am no wheel expert.

A friend of mine who has an '08 Bluetec, purchased OEM 18" E55 chromed wheels in a staggered setup. She purchased Continental ContiProContact A/S tires for her setup. Fronts are 245/40R18, and rears are 265/35R18.

She reports that handling is crisper, and tramlining is non-existent. The ride quality has not suffered, and neither has her gas mileage.

Her car looks so much better with the 18s. It was pretty much a plug and play situation. She couldn't be happier.

Baron, I would like to apologize for offending you, and assure you that my comment was not intended in any way to cause offense. Although the term is used quite often on these forums, this was quite ironically the first time I had used it myself, and will probably be the last. I find it to be rather unbecoming in any case.

I would like to extend a "Herzlich Wilkommen" and hope that you find the forums enjoyable.

If you are going the 18" route, I would reccomend the wider rear wheels to compensate for the phenominal torque of the 320CDI. For the 18" size, I would also urge you to look at the "Alresha" forged wheels from MB, they are quite attractive and high-quality wheels.

Did your friend have to modify the fenders to make these wheels work?

Responses to all:

Unterturkheim, apology accepted, sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks for the suggestions on the forged rims, they just dont' do anything for me.

Pinebaron, $2,800 for a set of 'real' E63 rims is a GREAT price. 2 fronts, 8.5x18 at 670 each and 2 rears 9 x 18 at 705 each, is the price I was given as dealer cost for these rims, your price is $50 over.

IndiumGrey, thanks for the pointers, I am glad your friend likes the set-up she chose. I had the chance to drive an E350 with the sport package and the 18's wrapped in Contis and it was a nice ride, much more responsive on turn-in than the Cadillac turn-in I am currently experiencing.

Benz-o-rama, sweet pics, I never saw AMG rims like what you are using for winter. I like your summer set-up also, nice choice.

Thanks all, I think I will go for staggered.

245/40/18 up front 275/35/18 in the back. Merc says 265/35, but 275/35 is closer to the original diameter and 275 will work, a bit over-kill, but for a commuter car, so is a Mercedes right?

Kindest Regards,

Bryan

Yep, very rare. You can find them on the E63, equipped with the 030 performance package.

Here's one:

Nope - no fender mods at all. The only thing she's looking at now is lowering the car slightly to reduce the gap.
