Talking New Toys For E In 2003.....

More toys: Automatic opening and closing rear door, next generation Distronic that will work in stop and go traffic.

This was taken from autospies. automatic opening and closing rear doors.....soundz great.....but why not front doors as well ?
if you want a rough idea of what the automatic doors are gonna be like.....think MEN IN BLACK 2 where will smith presses a button and the doors open.......cant wait.....

2003 E320
Expect to see something like the stepless door brake/soft close available on BMW 7-series. Beats me why not on front doors. There are no buttons to operate, the system is smart enough to detect surface incline and stop the door, or to pull it in if you close it most of the way.

Wish list

What new options would owners like to see? Please do not add stuff from futuristic magazines
  • infra-red night vision display (as on Cadillacs)
  • touch screen for audio/navigation system
  • move vehicle settings, automatic A/C controls, some other higher functions to the audio/navigation display

I test-drove an E320 Avantgarde in Australia in October 2002, which had an electronic compass which appears in the LCD display screen in the instruments panel. I wasn't able to find the menu that turns that feature on in subsequent test drives.

To owners who have taken delivery of the W211 beast - is the electronic compass already a standard feature?

These all would be a good start and catch us up with the Honda

The night vision like Cadilac would be a great feature on the E.

AUTO OPENING DOORS ARE STANDARD ON JAPANESE TAXIS

Perhaps the "addition" of automatic opening rear doors on the E Class is simply an accomodation to the Japanese Taxi industry which for years has had same as standard equipment on almost all taxis in that country. It may well not be an option that is available across the board, much less in the USA.
