Yes there is a light in the glovebox

The light in the glovebox as well as the one in the trunk seem to have conditions for being on.

The glovebox seems to need the car running and either lights on or interior lights on. ( I can't remember exactly but there were times when I wouldn't see the light come on when I wanted it to, but the car was off)

The trunk does something similar. Won't come on unless, some set of conditions are met.

The trunk lights came on, with the engine off; the glove box light did not. I was wondering if this not coming on with the engine off is a malfunction or performing to design specifications. I do believe that the glove box light should come on if opened regardless of whether the motor is running.

Risk of battery rundown

I believe that the glovebox lamp is not meant to come on just because the glovebox is open for a very obvious reason.

If the glovbox were to remain open (intentionally or not ) it could run down the battery.

Given the occasional difficulty some have had with keeping their gloveboxes shut or getting them to shut, this may be a well an intended feature.

The trunk if left open would have more obvious problems for the owner than just running down the battery.
