Angry Driving in Quebec, Canada

I thought this entry might be of help to anyone planning to drive in Quebec, Canada. First, they (the police) are getting very tough. I passed a car on the right that was waiting to make a left turn...I passed around him at 2-4 mph. I was stopped and given a ticket for $154. The cop would not talk to me except to say that I had one month to pay the fine. Second, I noticed signs, billboard size, along various places on the highway, stating that anyone driving 140Km( 90mph) will get a ticket for $648 + 10 points on their license.
I drive an E500 4Matic and have at times hit 90mph when passing a string of cars...the car has so much power.

Just a warning to take care.

in Ontario, if you're caught going 50Km/h over the limit (about 30 mph?) your license is suspended for a week and your car is impounded.

I heard that a while ago. What do they do to people from the states? Are they actually enforcing it, because when I was there a month ago everybody was still going 80-90.

People from the States are not immune. If you're caught, you're caught.
BUT, you are right, most people do drive about 70-80.

Wow! There are places in the States where you will get rear ended if you drive less than 90 mph. Anyone ever been to Atlanta?

Juliana Fantina = bald pig police chief

The Ontario Provincial Police or OPP head is a certain Juliana Fantina, a "safety" freak, a holier than thou cop. Together with the politicians he invented the so-called Street Racing law which enables the traffic cop to be judge and executioner at the same time. 50 km per hour over the limit (30 mph) and your car will be immediately impounded and license taken away. The motorist has no defence whatsoever before trial.

The chief is well supported by the politicians because his men bring in the dough. Parking and "speeding" tickets bring in millions of dollars every month to the socialist politicians here. Bloody hypocrites.

I am unsure if this is still up to date but until a few years ago New York State has a reciprocal arrangement with Ontario which means New Yorkers given points while driving in Ontario will have these added to their US licenses and vice versa.

The further away you are from the border the safer. For example, North Carolina has no such arrangements with Canada. I often question the legality of the NY-Ontario arrangement because one country is enforcing the law for another country.

in Toronto over 300 cars get impounded weekly from people doing over 50 km/h or 'racing' or doing 'stunts'. I see many on the 401 daily. It's total bull****.

It makes the police the Judge on the spot. You also get a $10,000 fine (maximum) also pay for the impound daily fee for the week and for the tow

Here's the Toronto Benz forum discussing about this topic:
