Arrow Keyless Go Start Button too hot

I am trying to get a definitive number as to how many 211 (E-Class) owners as of MY07, and 219 (CLS-Class) owners as of MY06 are dissatisfied with their metal Keyless Go button on the shift handle whereas it becomes too hot to the touch in warmer weather.

One possible solution suggested is to implement ignition switch part number A2215450114 currently used for the ML, R, and S-Class vehicles with compatible EIS. With this update, a second Keyless Go start button would be installed by the owner to be used during hot summer months.

Currently, MBUSA “Electrics/Telematics/Interior Service Engineering” does not feel this issue is significant.

You are not kidding; I have almost burnt myself on that button a couple of times. I still love it though

Yes, It surely gets "Burn Your Fingertip" hot during the Summer. I've put various things I find in the car, between my fingertip & the button on certain Summer days prior to pressing the button.

The old rectangular plastic one didn't get blister hot. I don't think its a redesign/free replacement issue on an outgoing model, but should be taken into consideration for future shift lever start buttons.

Since the car has a tip start function I think its bearable. But at the same token I can see where improvement is necessary.

So far no blisters.

No...and it's not just keyless go either. Also SLK55 (I think) and C55. We get the hot metal plate without the funtionality!

Count me in! I had already made a post about it here. In Florida it's so bad, I would refer to it as burning the living daylights out of your fingertips!

My SL63 AMG has the metal shifter button. I also have to grab a cloth or something in the car to start my car on hot days. Most of the time I just go for it, then look for a blister on my finger. It is a pain, literally.

It is metal too in 09. I noticed tpost when it was plastic, it could melted down. So I can guess I was lucky parking the car avoid too much sunlight. A bit of topic, I noticed in India people keep some pieces of clothes in car to touch steering wheel for few minutes after starting driving .My joystick have a protective cap to fire button, so I guess MB should use something similar.

Can't you start the car with the key if you have left the car under the sun for a long time, sunroof shades open?

Reminds me of a trip I took recently. I was headed to a hearing in another county, and my secretary hadn't printed a mapquest for me. This was before I had my car with GPS.

I was trying to pull up the map on my handheld and the system was real slow because I was in a rural area. Then it hit me, crap, why don't I just look at the paper map I have in the glovebox.

Marvelous “common sense answers” but misses the point as it relates to an interior design/option flaw readily corrected by adopting parts currently utilized across other models addressed via DTB - no need for a service campaign or recall.

07 Bluetec P2 package panaroma sunroof wood and leather steering wheel, keyless go
In my experience, the button, I touch realy quick with my finger and release before it burns. You really don't have to hold it that long before it starts(millisec). I have lived in La where it is hot year round, to now making the move to Pa. I like the way it looks. IMHO What really hurts is, I had on a tshirt (my interior is black) and it rose up after I sat in the seat ,after being in the sun ohh about 5 hours 100+ o/s. My bare skin hit the back ohhh I want to die

Unfortunately, at this point with eight documented complaints, very little.

So there is no good point of starting a small business to make protective caps yet?
