I doubt an average MB workshop would do the retrofit. It does involve relatively much work when the wiring is installed and the sensors at the bumpers but specifically the indicators on top of the cluster and above the rear window at the back.

Forum members have done it or have had it done by retrofit experts. It isn't going to be cheap but I'd look at it seriously.

I've seen "parking blocks" in generic automotive stores. You park on them, (u feel the groove as your tire drives on it), and presto, perfect parking all the time, and no fear of hitting your garage. Never used it, but it seems pretty simple enough.

OR,

have a spare tire lying around? Use that as cushion bet. your car and garage,

OR,

after parking in the "proper" place, reference a point in your garage from your drivers window or side mirror, and when you're at that point, you're done! Thats' what I do. Don't have a referernce point? Make one. Playboy centerfold works great!

Why spend $$$????

Are you sure that is not distracting your attention and making it even worse?
He was not going to spend money "on a reference point".

I would agree if it was only for the garage but I assume he is parking the car elsewhere too.

Several here have added Parktronic after the purchase of the car

It WILL cost more than ordering the car with it

As it requires a LOT of labor

Remove the dash to mount the front display
drop the headliner for the rear display
remove both bumpers
add the wire harness and control unit

MBENZNL.com did the retrofit on my W211

If all you're concerned about is parking in your garage, then add a laser parking assist. If you have a Chamberlain/Liftmaster/Craftsman garage door opener, the Chamberlain one like the one I bought integrates easily into your garage door opener (see link below). It shoots a red laser beam that I aimed onto the back of the center dash speaker, so we get the car parked within an inch or so of where it needs to be each time.

http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerwe...px?modelId=826

Alternatively, you can buy a generic version that works with all garage door openers:

http://www.smarthome.com/7187/Laser-...-System/p.aspx

Note, that it's best to aim the beam at an interior point, as it's hard to see it on the exterior due to reflection off the paint.

07 E320 Bluetec
Talk about crazy parking

Thats my Bluetec parked in my garage ; every time. No gadgets, no lasers and I also reverse in at an angle since my drive curves out to the left out of the garage. No mishaps so far. Did you see my garden implements almost on top of my MB? I know I should move them out to the other side or my shed

If you're concerned about garage parking, pass a string thru a tennis ball & nail (hook) the string to the ceiling at a point that will allow the tennis ball to touch your windshield when you have pulled in to your desired distance from the wall or wheel stop or whatever.

Barry, that's definitely a low-tech solution. Actually, I have wheel chocks in front as my backup to the laser. The problem with the wheel chocks is that they don't stay put if you keep bumping into them. With the laser, we stop just short of the wheel chocks.

...and you can't trip over the tennis ball like you can the wheel chocks when the car is not in the garage.

Its low tech, but non intrusive to the car or the wallet.

And you can always play tether ball with the tennis ball when the car's not in the garage.
