iPod Connector Question

I have a 2008 E350 with the factory iPod connector in the glove compartment. I bought an iPod Classic (80gb) and it works just fine (or, I should say, it works the way Mercedes designed it to work, through the MFD). I noticed, however, that whenever I open the glove compartment, the iPod screen is all lit up, even when the car is completely off. Is this normal?

Does it do this after the MOST ring has shut down? (IC is no longer illuminated and key is off)

I realized that when I opened the glove box, I must have touched the iPod control "ring" which lights up the iPod. Otherwise, it's off. Thanks for your response.

I think you can turn on lock switch on iPod to avoid accidently lighting it.

Thanks. Since you seem to have an iPod hooked up to your car, let me ask you another question. When I set my iPod to play a playlist randomly, it only plays aphabetically in the car, either by artist or song name (depending on how the selection was made on iTunes). Is there a way to make it play randomly?

Hello all,
I know I may be just a bit out of topic here but I can use some help. I don't normally open my glove very much since I'm usually the driver and my wife sits on the passenger and deals with everything else. I just happened to open the glove compartment the other day and the darn thing just dropped open and made a loud noise that I don't remember hearing. I really can't be certain but I could have sworn that the glove on my 06 E350 should not just drop open and should open slowly. Lately my wife opened it as well and it fell open on her knees and she herself can't remember if it's supposed to do that. Can anyone verify with me if the glove compartment should be dropping open like this. Thanks for any input and again since you guys are working inside your glove anyways for the ipod connection, maybe you can also see if I'm just crazy. I'm bringing my car in for it's 2nd maintenance Service D and would like them to check this out as well while under warranty. Thanks again.

Please someone. I have to bring this car in tomorrow morning and I just need someone to open their glove compartment and see if it just drops down fast or slowly. Could have sworn it used to open slow but now it's just dropping.

No, it is not supposed to do this. It is supposed to open softly. If you remove the side panel from the passenger side (open the glove box, open the passenger side door, and pry off the side panel with your fingers) you can see the compression mechanism in there. It is spring loaded with an arm. They sometimes break and need fixed.

I will have to look and see on this. I typically do not use the Playlist feature - I assume it does not have the "Shuffle Songs" option as the first option when you select a playlist?

Mine opens slowly. It does not drop down.

If I'm remembering correctly, when you select shuffle, it plays all the songs, not songs from a particular playlist. But, I'll check again.

Once the MOST system goes to "sleep" the iPod should shut off.
