2 CD or DVDs for COMAND?

2 CD or DVDs for COMAND?
Trying to understand why I have a DVD player in the back and a DVD in the console...in most instances, couldn't all the info be on 1?

The disc players on the dash are for MP3 and regular music CDs... but they dont play DVD, as far as I know anyway.

Have you checked your owner's manual? Most of these details are really well explained and can be model/year specific.

You're lucky if you have a dvd drive in your dash because I have a CD drive so I can only put mp3s on a CD instead of a DVD. I've been trying to put a DVD into the dash stereo and it just spits it out. Are you sure it's a DVD drive?

Thought it was. Ejected the disc once and it's a NAV DVD, so I figgered it was the disk for the COMAND, but after reading other posts, I located the CD/DVD (not sure which) in the back too.

The problem with a single drive is that you cannot play CDs/DVDs while navigating if the Navi processor is DVD based. On the new W211 Comand the trunk unit is not needed but then again, Navigation info is loaded to the hard drive and the DVD drive remains free for music/videos.

The first COMANDs - 2004-2005 - in a W211 had actual DVD drives in the dash that would read DVD media, but is only useful if you want to record MP3s on a DVD. They do not have the circuitry to decode DVD movies unless you have a VERY early 2004 US COMAND or a Euro COMAND.

It seems useless to have the CD(or)DVD slot in the front with the changer below. My garage queen has the same.
I realize my manual would have told me the same, but it's still at the dealer...left it there last time was in the shop.
