Question Need Help ASAP

Hi, I am asking for my friend, he has 03 E500, I believe it has "airmatic" suspension, not sure if that's what is called.
Not that familar with W211, but his front right suspension went out. It has the" Stop, car is too low" error message shwon on OBC.

Does anyone know what his options are?
OE replacement or aftermarket, how much will it cost if he go with OE replacement, and how much for aftermarket(coilover) if there is such option.

And if anyone knows any good and reaonsable priced shop in San Diego, please let me know.

Appreciate your help.

I don't think there are any other options than finding the OEM spare part which is the whole strut for the front. You may find the part cheaper though from somewhere else than the dealer.

As Diesel mentioned you'll need to have the full strut replaced. If you have a good relationship with the dealer you should get 15-20% off. I would go the OEM route personally.

I remember someone on the board talking about a coilover conversion offered for the airmatic cars but not sure who it's with. It may be worth investigating but it sounds like time is of the essence.

Good luck

From most of the strut failures i think most have been 2003 Right front - including mines. I was 20 days past my warranty but the dealer fixed it on goodwill (for free). I wouldn't get one from a junk yard unless its 2005+.

All E500's have airmatic suspensions, and he will need to replace the strut. Try a goodwill repair by the dealer and if that does not work, try parts. com, they have 20-30% on parts, depending what it is.

Front strut should run $800-$900, I installed mine myself, real easy job if you have some knowledge and the right tools. Otherwise, you can expect to pay $400-$600 for the install depending who you use.

Air-Suspension - repair

2 month ago I had problem with right rear - loosing air.

Parts: $525 (you have to buy compete assembly).
Labor: $300 (not MB dealership)

Considering expensive labor, I decised not to buy used at car-part.com
