You are right, sorry that I missed this.

At least I understood these cars should be new and the new cars should not do the horizontal movement at start-up. Perhaps the info is not confusing but incorrect? Seriously, either someone has mistakenly interpreted the movement of the lights or then there still exists two different implementations (like depending on the light assembly manufacturer, but that should appear in EPC because I cannot think of mixing the two in one car).

So based on this and what Benz-O-Rama wrote, it has to be on Auto? So if you do not have the lights set to auto, you turn on the car, then turn on the lights, the self-level does not function. I will have to give this a try later.

The self-level functions all the time. It goes through a self test when you turn on the ignition key. If the lights are on when you turn on the ignition, you can see the self test if you look at the beam pattern. The movement mechanism in the lights move the optics up and down and will display a fault in the cluster if it does not pass the test.

The point of the discussion originally is that when the Active Curve technology was introduced in 2004, some owners reported that the self test now includes horizontal movement, which I have not witnessed personally. I was just trying to figure out if there was a model year difference or really why some behaved differently then others.

Someone here had posted a video of his start-up with his lights aimed his garage door back in 2004, when I questioned why my lights didn't seem to follow steering wheel turning on my '04 car, and displayed no little dance when I started my car.

Turns out my car was discribed in the sales brochure as having active curve Bi-Xenon headlights as ordered, but due to a shortage of these lights when the car was sent doen the assembly line the final 10 days of November '03, it just got Bi-Xenons, not the active ones.

His headlights did in fact dance left/right - up/down, (very noticeably- can't miss it) and mine did nothing except turn on & the eyelid opened up.

My '07 DOES look up & down at startup. Now I will have to look and see if the up/down doesn't occur if the car is started outside versus inside the dark garage... but it doesnt seem to look left & right at startup ever.
