The only cheap thing I find on my W211 is the fake plastic grilles that are on either side of the center grille next to the fog lights.

does anyone know of real metal grilles that I could fit / replace the cheap plastic ones with?

I don't think mercedes manufactures them, you would have to custom make it yourself. If you don't like the look of the plastic grill, you might want to try getting it painted chrome/metal/machine face color. (And then taking a pic and sending it to me, because I am thinking of doing it as well )

I don't think I'll paint - I like the black look... just don't care for it being solid black plastic (vs. a real mesh grille like the center piece).

If possible, would want to replace the black plastic with black mesh

Check AllMercedes.com...........I recall seeing some replacement lower grills when I ordered my new Advantgarde Grill from them a few months ago.

lol, just bought the factory plastic mesh grill from the dealer to replace ours that happened to fall out sometime in the last few thousand miles...cost was $42.80 + tax

Looks like you're living up to the name...

I would rather the real mesh than the plastic, it is the only thing that makes a pre facelift benz look cheap.

Actually, I don't know about the regular bumpers, but on the AMG ones the pre face-lift comes with a nice quality shiny metal mesh, and the face-lift AMG bumper comes with a cheap honeycomb plastic mesh.

Not on the 2009 E350 AMG package. Mine is black metal mesh - not plastic. The two on the sides are solid plastic, not holes or honeycomb.

Can you post a pic? That sounds interesting as most, if not all Face-Lifted AMG Sport bumpers that I've seen have had a cheap plastic, and definitely not solid plastic on the corner air dams. Also, the AMG Sport bumper on the W221 S-Class is definitely a cheap honeycomb-ish like plastic in the center dam too.
