nope, as far as I know every thing is exactly the same, so if engine suspension gearbox and everything is the same you should expect a fairly similar ride and quality etc ... you pay more for the better styling and thats all ... oh yea, and I'm a proud member of that minority you mentioned.
I've really tried to like the CLS.... Just can't get myself to find it very attractive at all.

I don't like the CLS either, bad blind spots and roof too low. Also, to ghetto fab to me IMO.
Ya, I think Mercedes was making more money on the CLK since it is based off the C class, but most people think it is based off the E class. So, Mercedes started cutting costs on the E by removing stuff and by increasing the MSRP on it (04 E320 = 48k, 09 E350 = 53k, these are rough figures).
I think the CL is worth it over the S, price wise.

This "blind spot" and "roof too low" has been a long debate. I don't have any issues with blind spots, never have. A track driver said "Anyone that has blind spots needs to learn how to adjust their mirrors properly." IDK?
The roof suits me fine as I am 5'10", my wife is 5'5". Passengers get what they get!

Personally I think the roof-line is way too low too IMO. Looks like the '11 redesign will have bigger windows and a higher roof-line which looked good on the spy-shots I saw.
Unfortunately the car has seemed to attract alot of people who have ghetto-f'ied 'em, at least here in L.A.

Lol, I was with my friends last night and they all said they'd "rather take a BMW over a MB anyday." Me, being the Benz finatic I am started throwing stats about the 550 engines, ABC, and the 600 V12TT. When I said the 600 V12TT has over 600 torque at about 3500 rpm, one of my friends jumped from his seat and was like "WTF?!?!?" I think I shut them up
