Are brake calipers plug and play?
When it comes to brakes and brake systems it is safe to say I'm lost. If I find a set of calipers I like, can I go ahead and use them? I've seen some of you guys slap AMG brake kits on regular W211's so that is why I want to try to get creative. I found a set of brakes but they are for 201 and 124 models. Does that make a difference? I want to use them in the rear of my E3504matic, the description mentions the use of a 330mm rotor w/ this brake caliper. Is this okay for a rear brake set? I've included a picture of the calipers if that is any help to anyone. Thanks for any input you have for me on this!
What about these? It says for Nascar but is there any reason you can't have super brakes on a regular car? Can it be looked at as an added safety factor? Is there any danger in adding bigger brakes to a car that doesnt necessarily need it? Sorry for all the questions, thanks!

Certainly NOT an expert either but have read a bunch of Brake Rotor and Caliper threads recently while thinking about upgrading my pads to Dustless ( Akebono, Porterfield, etc> ) and Rotors/Calipers to AMG, Zimmerman, Brembo, etc... E55 AMG calipers, from what I've read, will require a 2mm larger mounting bolts holes be drilled out of the stock caliper mounts... There's an entire thread out there on that subject from several members here who have done it with success using E55 AMG Calipers... Noticeable improvement in brake performance too... FWIW, seems 07 E550 Rotors ( larger diameter, cross drilled) will fit the prior year W211 E's... Do some searches and see what others have done to save yourself from making a mistake or re-inventing the wheel...
I will say that the vast majority of Brake related threads I've read seem to indicate that pad swaps are a piece of cake on these cars compared to others and there are a few 'gotchas' to be aware of when replacing Rotors/Calipers...

I remember reading once that the SBC had to be reprogrammed. Years ago MB ran some 2005 CDIs in an enduro race (One Lap?) and had significant problems making the brake controler work with AMG brakes, limiting the use of the cars for the event.

There's no reason to think the hubs are the same so no reason to think others will fit.
There's no reason to think a larger caliper will fit inside your current wheels, either.
There's every reason to understand that the piston size of the master cylinder is matched to the piston sizes of the original calipers and therefore a change in the latter suggests a change in the former.

It was said in the past that you disconnect the battery when working on SBC brakes. we have found that doing this too much it blows the phone module and stores fault codes.
Just leave the doors closed and the key out of sight and it will be safe to work on
