Cargo Net question

I got my cargo nets today (the floor net and the "envelope" net), and I seem to me missing the "hooks" that hook onto the floor D-rings in the E500. The instruction sheet for the net shows the hooks attached to the net, and I don't have them.

Also, on the floor net, it shows it hooks up to the car via loops at the end of the net onto "tabs" that are embedded into the floor of the trunk. I have rings all around the floor of the trunk.. and the net has loops on the end.

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem with their nets for their E. I have the Split fold launch promo rear seats.. and have hooks on the trunk floor (4 total).

Thanks
Peter

Well, in the "envelope" net I'm just going to leave the Meguiars Quik Detailer and a cloth to spot cleaning the car on the run. Otherwise the rest of the "netted' area will be for items that need transporting so they don't got sloshed around while driving.

Cargo Net / Spilt Seats

I ordered the cargo net for my E500 and was told by the dealer that if you have the split fold down rear seats you dont get the hooks to which the cargo net can be attached.

So folding rear seats = no cargo net. Makes no sense to me but thats how it is.

I had the same thing happen to me. The envelope net will attach but the floor net and the side nets will not work with the fold down seats. I went through many painful discussions with my dealer and MB. I agree it is ridiculous.

I had exactly the same problem with my E500 (now with 2500 miles). The dealer's parts department folks thought I was crazy because "Mercedes just wouldn't make a mistake like that!" I was the first at my dealer to order these. I, too, have the promotional fold down back seats (which I really didn't want anyway but were added to my order without any choice), so I guess with those, you just get floor loops. My remedy was to go to Wal Mart and spend $8 on a set of bungee cables with hooks on each end. They work OK for most needs, and I got my $80 back from the MB dealer for the two cargo nets.

That makes sense now.. cause in the instruction sheets that come with the nets.. it mentions "Through loading feature" and without that feature. So instead of those "hooks" I get "loops/rings" to tie stuff down.

But what I don't get is... I ordered my car WITHOUT ordering the Split Fold Seats.. and got them anyway.. and every other E500 I have looked at since ordering my car.. had them... I was told MB is making all E's with the Split Fold since the Fold Flat Pasenger Seat is "delayed."

Thanks for the info... I'll try to find some "hooks" to set it all up.

Same Problem

Originally asked the dealer to install them by the time I picked up the car (which they didn't). Took it in for service and asked them to put them in (which they didn't). Now I know why. Thanks for the post.

CARGO NET

I had the same problem with the dealer trying to fit the floor net. The net was about 2/3 the size of the trunk. One dealer ordered a net for the S500 that was also too small. I sent an E-mail to MB and they are researching the problem. I tried all the major auto parts stores and WalMart no luck. The seller on E-bay would not give the size of their nets when questioned.

The company below finally replied to me.

"Our Audi A6 sedan net is close to 36x30, but regardless of which net you order, we will make it to fit that size.

As reviewed in fine publications like
The Detroit News, Land Rover Monthly,

I bought four clips from the local hardware and after much research ordered a net from the company online.

Went throught the same discussions with the dealer. I picked up four of those carribeaners(sp) you know - those cheap knock offs of the mountain climber hooks. I think I got them at Home Depot - about a buck a piece. Got four black ones and they work great to keep the net down nice and tight. Good luck!!

The dealer's nets are too small for the trunk. I am going to use the Coleman Deluxe Mini Links to connect the net to the four rings in the trunk. One dealer wanted to drill holes in the trunk to make the net fit. The required size should be 30 by 36. I think the stock size is 18 by 30

I kept the net I had bought for my Audi A6 and tried it in my E500 with the folding seats. It fits just about perfectly. I haven't even looked at the MB options. You can probably pick one up from Audi. Clair Audi in MA tends to have cheap accessory prices (www.clairparts.com).

Good luck!

I ordered the net from davidhonl.com He is on the Yahoo Shopping Web Site. It cost about $47.00 with the taxes and shipping. I will let you know how it fits when I receive the net. The web site shows custom fit cargo nets. I plan to connect the net with the links from Coleman. I should have the net by Monday since the company is about 30 miles South of Los Angeles.

CARGO NET E500

I received the cargo net from David Honl Company today. The net was for an Audi A6. The size was 30” by 30” too small to connect to the four D rings on the floor of the E500. The measurements between the four D rings are 36” front to back and 40” across. I am still looking for a cargo net that will fit.

CARGO NET E500

I received this reply from Mercedes-Benz "Thank you for your recent internet query, and for your patience while awaiting
our reply.

The 0072 is the only floor net available for the E-Class, and was designed for
vehicles without the pass through or split folding seats. We are sorry for any
inconvenience this has caused.

If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to call us at

E500 CARGO NET

I finally bought a cargo net from a Volvo dealer. Part Number 8682147-7. The cost was under $50.00. The net has four clip that attached to the four D rings. The net was the largest one that Volvo sells. The fit is very good and there is some room for expansion.

I have had a similar situation with cargo nets. I bought two nets at different times. I have been in to the dealer to see if someone could install them but didn't get anyone that could do it quickly. Since it wasn't all that important, I drove around with the things unopened in my trunk for several months. I don't have the split-fold seat you are talking about. The only net thingies that I have found are the four you would use for the net that would be right at the beginning of the trunk as you face into the trunk--that would keep stuff from falling out.

Bottom line: I returned the nets and got my money back. They said it would take a "kit" to be able to use the other nets. At least I'm not nuts. They really weren't there.

E500 CARGO NET

I do not know if your trunk is configured the same as my trunk. If not let me know. Do you have four rings on the floor of your trunk?
Are the forward two rings located near the base of your rear seat on the floor of the trunk and the rear two rings located on the floor of the trunk just below your tail lights? If so you are going to need a 36 inches by 40 inches net. The Volvo web site and dealer is the only place that carrys a net that will fit the E500.
