Alignment Service Bulletins??

My E-500 drifts to the right as many others have posted. Most have taken it in and the alignment took care of the problem.

I have had mine in twice and they cannot get it fixed. They acknowledge it needs to be corrected. They say it shows absolutely correct on the alignment machine. They switched wheels.

Do I remember that someone else had a similar problem and got it corrected? Was there an actual Service Bulletin on this? If so has anyone got a number or at least enough information to describe to the service advisor?

BTW...had the ticking noise..switched motor mounts and all is perfect in that department.

My CLK500 was drifting right after I took it off the lot. The problem was in centering the steering wheel (alignment was checked and was perfect). Perhaps the solution is as simple as that?

Have any of you tested you alignment by driving in both lanes of a road with a known crown in it? A perfectly aligned car will drift right in the "right" lane, and will drift left if driven in the "left" lane (lane on-coming traffic would normally be in). You could also test it in a very large, flat parking lot. Pick a single lane and travel straight down it. Then turn around and go down the very same lane in the opposite direction in exactly the same spots your tires were rolling previously. If the car pulls to one side (right, for example) during the whole exercise, you got a problem

In Canada, I believe you are covered for 1 free alignment within the first year of ownership. If there is a known defect that needs replacement of suspension component(s) and/or wheel re-alignment, that of course doesn't count.

Mine is right drift

I expect it is probably just a camber adjustment.

Regardless of the crown in the road it does this.

Obviously less though when the crown is on the right.

Camber is the axis angle upon which the steering knuckle rotates, if both front wheels don't have a matching camber it may pull even if the alignment is perfect.

Mine drifts to the left. Have not brought it into the service center yet. They told me that it take one day to fix it. I have been to the servce center twice in two months, too much for a brand new car.

If you are in singapore do you have RHD?

gary_hgy

Does you car have Right Hand Drivers position?

If so I'm wondering if, since yours drifts left and those of us in the US all seem to have drift right, maybe the factory is overcompensating for the weight of the driver in setting the initial camber for the front end.

If so, they have done it to offset which side the driver sits on.

LHD would drift right RHD would drift left by default if this is true.

Jabo,
In Singapore, it is RHD. What you said could be true.
I am sending in the car when they have gotten the parts to replace a crack in the right hand signal lens on the wing mirror. The service center did mention that it was an alignment problem. Seem to be a common problem with the W211.
