missing buttons for garage door opener

I am trying to program my dad's car to open 1 gate and 1 garage door that lead up and into the house. I read the manual and it says the buttons are supposed to be built into the mirror. there are NO buttons anywhere on the mirror. Is this not a basic feature? Is there any other buttons that might be assignable? Thanks!

Yes, its a basic feature of every E I have owned. The buttons are on the bottom of the mirror. You don't say where you are and you don't say what year you have or model or whether it was bought new or used. I suppose some prior owner could have swapped out the mirror -- or perhaps outside the US they don't automatically include the garage opener as standard.
