Very handsome!! Might get one of these to replace my 2006 Lexus GS300 AWD. I am loving Mercedes Benz lately and their designs and quality have improved substantially in past few years. My 2006 ML350 is one of the best SUV I have ever driven and it is stable and reliable. So, this new E class looks like a good direction for Mercedes. The first photo makes the car look more sharper with the low profile wheels and low suspension setting vs the rear end photo which looks kind of funny looking.

Interesting. You're the first person to like it (see the link I posted above.) And on other car forums on the net, there are overwhelming negative responses.

But what really makes this interesting is that the negativity is about the new model now looks too Japanese; too Lexus and Hyundai-like. But you like it and you are a current Lexus owner. Interesting........ maybe MB is trying to win over Lexus owners (and lose MB owners!)

The LED fog lights look interesting.

I have typically never maintained my opinion of a car from first sight of it. I agree about the Japanese look but I hope the car more than makes up for it with comfort, technology, and performance (and I think it will). There is a lot at stake for Mercedes-Benz with this car.

Hmmm I dont know but I dont like the headlight and front end. Who knows maybe when I see it up close or when it arrives at the dealers I'll get a second opinion out of me. Right now what I see in the photos I dont like it.

thanks for the pix...as a matter of fact, I was driving on the 405 south yesterday (by LAX) and a 'covered up' W212 was slightly in front of me then it got right next to me -- didn't have my camera...I honked and gave the guys a
--they slowed down some but from I saw, I didn't care too much for the exhaust tips (reminded me of the LS model -- Lexus)

oh well...it may grow on me if I get to check it out at the dealer...

I really can't believe that's the official rear end of the car. It's ugly. Horrible. Loving the front but the back

Front end is too busy. No comparison with the current car which is a timeless beauty.

I kind of agree. I think it's another trend that is surfacing in the car business. Everyone's trying so hard to keep up to date and such that.......they're cars are starting to flat out look exactly like each others ?

I'm not too impressed with the whole L.E.D craze, some cars look good with them, and others they just look kind of out of place and forced. Then again I've never judged a car by what's "new" or hot, as much as what I think looks or works good.

I posted my mostly negative opinion about the W212 in the other Thread, but something just popped in my head.... is it me or for the FIRST time ever, is it M-B who's copying everyone else? From Japanese and Korean hues, to tons of BMW aspects.

Yeah I pointed that out in the other Thread, IMO it just looks too busy and confused. Alot of the car just doesn't flow IMO or make "sense", but I dunno, I'm gonna try and stay hopeful until I see them on the street and make a real judgement.

I personally wonder if it could hold the timeless qualities a style like the 211 IMO will, I doubt it.

Not exactly. The problem is that Korean car like the new Genesis takes so much from the Germans that the Germans wind up looking like the Korean car, after the fact. The W212 is mostly an evolution of the W211, not a copy of anythin Japanese, Korean or BMW. It looks nothing like a BMW to start with and the Asians have taken so much from Mercedes to the point where Mercedes would have to craft a whole new look (like Jaguar did with the XF) compared to anything they've done in the past, just to stand out.

I am reserving judgment until I have seen the car in person. So far, I find it very interesting and the technology which is rumored is very impressive. I seem to remember a similar dilema which everyone had with the current S-Class as it was so different than the previous generation. If I am correct, many disliked the styling of the 221 saying it was basically too much of a departure from the MB norm and looked a little BMW, Maybach, Asian etc. Now as tastes have developed over time, I would say the 221 is for the most part universally loved. Of course it drives beautifully which helps - I expect the new E will improve also on the already excellent driving dynamics of the current car. Further, considering the improvement in quality in the past few years I would expect the new E to be stellar in this regard. Only time will tell....

Interesting. I actually wasn't paying much attention when the new S-Class came out so I dunno how people reacted, but to me it always seemed a bit more German looking than the last one (although it does look strikingly similar to the new Camry if you try to draw the comparisons), never really struck me as too Japanese-y looking. For the most part I'm a fan of its looks, although certain angles aren't as good as others IMO due to the sharp lines on it.

I think what's really making this E look Japanese/Korean to me is the tail lights/rear-end, and front lights, and side profile from some angles.

The new C looks pretty Japanese inspired to me too, which turns me off to it a bit, however I never liked the W203 because I thought the curvy lines on it mixed with its smallness made it too wimpy looking, with that little size of car, the more sharp and boxy look of the W204, gives it a more rugged and strong look for a little car IMO.
