Window Tint questions - 50 or 35?

I'm picking up my new white '09 E350 next Tuesday and trying to figure out what level of tint to get, if at all. The car also has a pano roof, so I think it might look more consistent with some level of tint on the windows. I've never had tinted windows before on any of my cars, so I'm kind of apprehensive as to what to expect. My dealer suggest 35 but I'm thinking 50 might be a safer approach, kind of a little bit of both!

Some novice questions: When wearing sunglasses during the day, is it going to be harder to see out the side and rear windows? What about the rear auto-dimming mirror and how that will work/look? What about at night visibility? Do tinted windows fog more or less? What about cleaning them? I'm kind of **** when it comes to having clean windows inside and out.

Any comments or suggesitons are welcome. Also any pics would be appreciated as well.

thx

Thx

35 from inside the car is hardly noticeable...

50 isn't even worth it..

no other adverse issues associated with the tint.

hope this helps,

chris

Try to remember the NY laws about tint, now I know this is subject that varies
according to who you talk to. Although depending on whether a cop was able to get with his girlfriend the night before, they can stop you based on the degree of your window tint, especially in the front seats,so please be careful

fwiw, any tint on sides are illegal in CA. That said, LAPD don't care. It's only when you get out in the sticks, and then you can pick up a fix-it ticket.

Best tint, imho, is the German made Huper Optik. Expensive, but it's ceramic and not metallic. Sometimes metallic tint will interfere with keyless go. Metallic tint did on my BMW with keyless entry (called 'Comfort Access' in BMW language); check the Bimmer forums, lots of talk there about it. Once I removed it, no problems.

Huper Optik also has much better UV protection. I can put on a 45% Huper and it looks OEM/cop proof, yet still reduces heat dramatically. It can also be put on the windshield w/o cop issues. Dark tint is for more for looks; Huper is more for UV/heat reduction. Personally, I can't drive at night with tint. It really bugs me to have it so dark. Even with parktronic

Agree with that, gotta have my vision to watch out for cops. Ya, I really want it for the UV/heat reduction as well. However, I do want privacy for the back so I've been debating about putting 5% on the back

In regards to the comment about cop getting with his girlfriend the night before, it's more like if the cops girlfriend got banged by a guy that drove a Benz, then the cop is out for blood.

I would never get tint on the front here in CA. Don't need to give the cops another excuse to pull me over.

50%, don't bother. 35% will be noticeable but no real dramatic effect. 28% is noticeable and a nice compromise, won't effect your night vision much and will help keep the car a tad cooler in sun... My car has 20% sides and back. During the day with sunglasses, it's perfect. At night, it can be a bit difficult to see when trying to use the rearview or side mirrors... 5% is damn dark and usually reserved on Limo's or show cars...

then consider my measly 350 a showcar!! haha, jk, but at night all i can see out of the rear are halos from other drivers headlamps...makes it more fun to drive without your rearview mirror

on second thought, not the best idea, but then again i don't drive going backwards

Heavy tint is just for looks, etc.. But if you don't want that limo look and if you want to see at night and if you want cops off your butt, then Huper Optik nano ceramic is the only way to go. It looks awesome on exotics (Ferrari, etc.) and it's much higher quality than the usual tint everybody else has on their cars.

It has better heat and UV protection than any other tint on the market. Huper at 30% or 45% has better protection than conventional tint at 5%. And you can do it on the windshield and legally get away with it, 'cause it's barely noticeable. Your cabin will be way, way much cooler in the summer.

Huper is hard to install and only official authorized places I know about are Song's Tint Masters in LA and The Art of Tint in NYC. I've done my last three cars in Huper and will soon do my new MB, too.

Ya, I really want to get that on my windshield. I love our 02 CL500 with the windows it comes on that and the "purple" shaded winshield that keeps the heat out. Wow what a difference. Actually, can I get that "purple" shaded windshield tint on my E? I know it also comes on bentleys, 750's.

I would go 20%. 50% isn't even worth it, 35% does nothing for heat and 20% seems to be the best of both worlds. In Maryland, 35% is legal but I've always put 20% on every car I've ever owned and have never gotten a ticket for it. Never.

20% daytime:

20% nighttime

Ahh the question of the century....50% or 35%. i got 50% all around but i just got it to help reduce heat (trust it helps...plus it makes me look semi "gangster" at night ). If you want the dark look then definitly get 35 but it your just tryin to keep your car cool and don't want the dark look then go 50. but i think you'll like 35 more...

5% all around. 35% is light. My last 4 cars including E and ML all 5%. Here in LV they don't give any problems.

Looking...
Second that! I'm 5% except for my front Driver & Passenger. 35% is the legal limit on them here in Utah. Weird and lame. What, do the fuzz think i'm gonna have a gat loaded and pointed at them or somethin. Is that why they HAVE to have a law to make it illegal to tint darker in the front? Gay!!!!

I always get the darkest available, which seems to be 5%. I got my fronts a shade lighter (I think 20%), I love the look, and shaded/private feeling of super dark Tints. Beware of the night vision though, I'm used to it.

20% all around except the windshield. Anything higher is not worth it and lower will attract too much attention from the po-lice.

Friend just got pulled over last night for having dark tints (I forget how much on the front but he has 15% on the back). Not good, they searched his car... not good

Don't know about SD, but if you want to make a day of it you could come to LA and do it at Song's Tint Masters.

Check the Huper website. Here's their contact form link: http://www.huperoptikusa.com/automotive_formpage.cfm

Thumbs up

With tint wearing sunglasses during the day never affects me. It does take a bit getting use to. My auto dimming rear view mirror still works especially w/those damn lifted trucks! My windows fog up but it does take longer for them to fog up then usual. Visibilty at night is fine ... like I said you just have to get use to it

I have 5% all around and I also had the corner of the little side window tinted to hide that so called 'shark fin'.

Do you have restrictions in NY w/tint? If not do 5% all around and do the windshield 35%. You will love it!!
