wiper out of time?

E320
wiper out of time?
My son started up our 1998 320 E after an ice storm and turned on the wiper. Well it was frozen to the windshield and to make a long story short I can push the wiper down to the park position and when I turn the wiper switch on it will come as far as the center line of the windshield and then come to an abrupt stop. Seems like the gear or the linkage is out of synch? Any ideas?

Very interesting--you have a W210 and have posted in the wrong forum. W211 wipers aren't the same.

I am glad you mentioned W210\W211. I am such a newb I am unaware of the difference. When I read the forum header it indicated E class then listed e320? Can you straighten me out on this one? Thanks for your patience.
