N95 and punk with tail
Has anyone tried pairing N95 (8GB US version) with the punk?
My blackberry works like a charm, but N95 does not even identify the punk as a bluetooth device.
any clue?

Basic hands free should work to and from almost any device, certainly if it is a good N95 (no crippled operator version with limited features), it really should work in this case too. Things like the phone book availability may be a compatibility issue.
Perhaps someone with the same device will help you.

Its original Nokia N95 V4 (North America version).
I tried pressing the button on the punk and then searching for bluetooth devices from my phone. It just says - No bluetooth devices found.
Forget about pairing, it does not even identify the punk.
I'll try again tomorrow...

Ok, pairing successful!
don't ask me how, I just deleted all the bluetooth devices on the phone and it worked.
Next to get the phone book to download. I was reading somewhere that upgrading to firmware 21.0.018 will solve this problem, but in order to upgrade the firmware for US N95, the phone will have to be flashed to change its product code and this can void n95s warranty.
WTF, I'm going to do it.
Will let you guys know.

There may be different tricks necessary to get the S60 Nokia device to download the address book. I'm not an expert at all but examples I've seen posted are:
- change the sync settings, edit the profile to use server version 1.1 for connection settings (I understand the security from 1.2 is not supported by the car system).
- install the phone book download manager intended for the Nokia 616 car kit.

Odd that you had to that to get it paired.

There is no download manager for the Bluetooth Puck with Tail to my knowledge.

Apparently, you can hack your phone to change the product code to trick the Nokia updater to think you have the Euro version and then install the 30.0.018 firmware. But I don't want to risk it because I know the Euro version does not support the US HSDPA frequency (3.5G) and don't want to risk losing that (and going back to EDGE for data). I can't confirm that will or will not happen, but again, I don't want to be the guinea pig.
