Lightbulb Pimping my E-500

Hi,

I own an almost 7 years old W211 E-500 and I love this car and I don’t want to sell it, I am looking for a serious upgrade. Fortunately there are many branded MB tuners and I found a crazy MKB body kit (attached).

Did anyone already used this MKB kit?

What do you recommend?

I noticed most of E-Class tuners go with simple body modifications, the car looks really good and you don’t want to mess it up with a crazy body kit but the one from MKB with the front and back side wings makes it like lambo styling! I attached more images I got from here.

I think the AMG E63 is by far the best. No contest.

I agree! I like the AMG styling too, it is defiantly the best!

I want to use branded customization on my car with affordable engine upgrade. I don’t want to use AMG on my E500 unless I convert it into E63 by upgrading the engine too which is impossible since Mercedes agent will only sell it they won’t upgrade it. At this time I would go for second best.

Brabus is the same issue with AMG, I have to get a new car and it is too expensive.

Lorinser is cool but it doesn’t look muscular IMO

On the other hand Carlsson looks similar to AMG which I am considering at the moment besides Kleemann.

Additionally, I checked the following tuners:
  • WALD – Looks outdated on the E-Class
  • ART – Not my style!
  • FABULOUS – I think it looks bulky.
  • Kicherer – I can’t see any difference.
  • VÄTH – Not bad, but I don’t like the triple exhausts on each side.
  • MKB – In my initial post I find it crazy!
  • ASANTI – I hate it! It changes the identity of the car but nice rims.
  • RENNTECH - Only engine performance upgrades and it is very expensive
I am left with only two options, Kleemann or Carlsson (attached). Can you help me out with finding more options for my car?
For Carlsson, I think I need to get the AMG package first then addon Clarsson skirts.

After giving this a lot of thought I think I should do a combination of my favorite parts:
  • Exterior: AMG E63 complete body kit (so far nothing else looks better)
  • Engine: Kleemann E55K full Engine package boosting E500 to 455 hp and 433 lb-ft (if within budget)
  • Rims: Carlsson 20s or VIP Modular 19s (attached images)
  • Interior: Custom (later)

Then I can say that my E500 is dressed with E63’s body kit powered by Kleemann running on 20” wheels.

I think this will cost me a fortune! I will call them tomorrow for detailed pricing. If beyond my budget I will go with cost effective solution or I will save in upgrading the engine.

You do realize that the Kleeman blower upgrade will cost you more than if you sold your E500 and pay the difference, upgrading to an actual E55 AMG.

If you're truly planning on doing these types of upgrades, you really should just consider an authentic AMG car. Looking at your list, I see about 20-25K in upgrades. Just doesn't make sense.

Actually yes, in addition to paying a lot of money to maintain it especially it is one of the first, when it first rolled out I was one of the first to own a w211. I won’t get a good resale value for it, I’ve been taking care of it since almost 7 years now and the mileage on it is almost 82,000kms (50952 miles). I am attached to it and it has some sentimental value.

I think I might pass on the engine upgrade, I can live with 306 hp, even after all these years the car still handles great and it is responsive.

I will collect some quotations and out of curiosity I will also check how much a used E55 will cost. Will do the math and see if all of this is worth it, but my E500 is desperate for a facelift and a serious update.

Why not just leave it alone and continue to enjoy it rather than make it into something its not. Any mods will further reduce your car's value.

E55's are selling at outrageously low prices right now. I saw an '05 E55 w/ 50k miles with a $32k sticker on it.

If you were to ask me a year ago I would've said go for it. But the way the prices have dropped you're better off with an AMG car like others have mentioned. If you like your car and plan to keep it stick with the exterior upgrades and enjoy.

+1 E63 kit
+1 Powerchip ECU tune

FYI Kleeman s/c kit for the E500 is $13k.

This way I will defiantly save but as a Mercedes owner I am fortunate that I have many options to further enhance it and there are many specialized brands such as Brabus, Lorinser, Carlsson, Kleemann, etc…

I don’t want to make it into something its not, instead I want to convert it to be a Kleemann E50K, Carlsson CK55 RS, etc… I will make sure that I can make it an official E50K or CK55 or whatever they’ll call it as an official name change goes with the modification. I am basically not going to label it something that it isn’t but if I am going to use the AMG E63 body kit then I would and I don’t want that, that’s why I am still looking for an official package made for the E500 at the right price. However it is worth to mention that many different E-Class versions are sold with AMG dressing optionally by the dealer and I had that option but I needed to wait 6 months to get my car that’s why I picked an Avantgrade sporty package. So it is also official to have E63 kit on an E500 but without changing the model number.

I feel this change at this time is necessary, but the thing that is pulling me back is the maintenance cost and also insurance will not cover the new parts. I am still collecting quotations and gathering a lot of info in order to decide on this project.

I must consider this option though I will have to risk buying a used sports car which may cause more trouble later specially the E-Class is not a very reliable car IMO.

Thanks.

I checked today with our dealer and the original AMG E63 full body kit will cost me $8,226 (installation not included in the price), I am still waiting for other quotations. There are defiantly many other options at lower prices, I’m taking my time on this project.

Price seems about right but slightly on the high side. What discount are you getting? Most bodyshops get 15%. If you have a tight relationship with someone in parts you can get 20%.

A few quotes for paint & install ranged from $1800 to 2300.

IMO any W211 (e320, e350, e500 etc.) is meant to have the AMG kit. I ordered mine out of the AMG catalogue. Not to mention E500's were also factory equipped with AMG front/rear bumpers. At the end of the day, it's you're car... do what you like!

$8,226 is after 20% discount. I think I can get it cheaper through another channel. I'll try my best, I like the E63 AMG kit the most and I hope I can get it at the right price.I hope I make the right choice the first time because I won’t be doing this upgrade again anytime soon.

Today I called to confirm with our MB AMG agent and actually the price quoted above is not for the E63, they said that the E63 kit is exclusive and they will not allow anyone to have it! So I will look for aftermarket E63 kit.

I contacted the official Carlsson agents and they gave me the full idea about their tuning program, if I go for the full package (engine and exterior) it will cost me around $43,250 (with one year warranty on all parts) the car will be shipped to Germany and retuned back to me within two months with the modified engine which as they said by using Carlsson genuine parts they can boost it to 480 hp, I am getting greedy with this upgrade, if I will only settle for the exterior I will pay much less but 480 hp is insane!

There is also another tuner called Auto Couture but I didn’t like it:

Something is

insane
AMG dressing, does not an AMG make
No body kit is going to make an official anything.
You seem to be stuck on official, like that will make the old W211 be anything other than what it is.AN old E500 W211.
$43,250?
You could purchase 3 E55's in different colors and drive each one a few days a week. And each one will spank the E500 in officialaftermarket dressing.
E500 rounded off in 20's,I am sure that almost any W210 or Stock W211 will also park your official body dressed E500 in the weeds.
$43,250 conversionI think I have finally heard it all

14grand E500's with $43,000 conversions,someone is on ludes
