I didn't want to believe that until you posted that pic of the Honda... 
I don't pay attention to Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc. to be honest... At least the new E has more rake and some body style... Not too sure about that rear quarter panel but the rest of the lines look OK...

I think the idea is nice.... I just don't like the fact that it resembles a Honda Accord Coupe from the side 
If I bought one.. I wouldn't want an accord pulling up to me at a light looking like my brother from another mother!

If there is one thing I have always found with new Mercedes, it doesn't matter how they look in pictures, when you are in front of it, no one would mistake it for any other car.

actually from what I hear - and I'm not sure - it actually isn't .. the CLK was based on the C class underpinnings or platform or whatever they're called .. this one however is supposed to be based on the E class .. which means it should be longer, more CL-like

the things i hate about the new e-class styling:
-headlights (makes the car looks like a Caddy, overall it's ugly!)
-taillights (looks like a cheap a$$ honda)
This is what we get from the infamous daimlerchrysler. Im glad mercedes got seperated from them

I'm still at odds with it. On one hand IMO it looks good, on the other it looks really bad. The rear quarter and possibly the rear end are a major buzz-kill. WTF is M-B thinking with the bulged out rear fenders? I mean I love bulgy aggressive looks, but this doesn't even look aggressive, it just looks reminiscent to an old caddy or something.
If it's based on an E-platform and all E interior/exterior quality products and design, and looks good in person (which I'm still skeptical of), I'd consider getting one perhaps in the future.

the way I see it .. MB realized its oval and rounded designs have gotten abit old now and that people now are more into straight-lined ruler designs than curvy bubbly stylings .. so they started with trying to look like Audis, and ended up looking like Kias

I guess I'm in the minority but I like the looks of the coupe and the sedan. The sedan I saw a couple of weeks ago looked just right. Not as big as an S and the coupe strikes me the same way. I was looking at a new CL today and it is a stunning car but man that's a big sled.
As always though, I wouldn't buy the first year model run of a US model Benz. History says the odds of happiness are greater if I wait a year or so.

I agree with you, I like both coupe and sedan very much. It is a departure from what they have been doing, but that happens every generation.
There probably were similar discussions about the W210 when it was launched since the front oval lights looked radically different than any MBs of the 80s or 90s.
I'm sure we will all grow to love the design in person.
I wouldn't worry to much about buying a new MB first model year, the recent generation S, CL, and C launches have gone very smoothly and most people have been very happy with their vehicles. MB did turn around most of their quality issues.
