I love the interior. Hate the exterior..if they had just kept a more traditional E class exterior with the interior it would be rocking. It looks less like a sports car, and more of a grandpa mobil now....

I think a big difference will be when you actually sit in the drivers seat. With the current E, from the drivers seat you are able to see the beautiful sculpted hood leading to the round lights. In the 2010 E-class the hood is fairly flat so behind the drivers seat at you will see is a plain flat sheet of sheet metal.
There is nothing I like of this E over the w211 in terms of design. The current E has the beautiful/distinguished round headlights and sculpted hood. Leading to the flowing and curvaceous sporty body and the neat and elegant rear. The w221 looks messy with the 2 odd shaped lights. The lexus implementation is much cleaner looking in the GS IMO. The C-class front end is better also. The side the lines flow to nowhere with the disruption of the body line with the caddy like arch. The rear end is definitely either Hyundai like or even the new Lincoln cars have a similiar set up. The inside looks ok but I prefer the flowing lines of the current w211. That is one of the reasons I didn't buy the 5 with the harsh lines and horrible materials.
That said I bet that this car will sell well because too many people out there buy cars just because of the prestige factor. BMW 5 sold well and it is bangle butt ugly.

I agree, it will probably sell OK regardless, based alone on the safety, prestige and technology behind it. I doubt its gonna be a record-breaker seller for MB though. I think when you're buying a $50K plus car, styling is a very important factor.

I couldn't agree more loco. In LARGE part I have bought benzes over Lexuses because of styling. I feel a Lexus is a great car, but has always looked a bit cheap and common to me. The cache with the brand is important.

RE: W212
I think these are the best views I have seen., and am neither wowed or offended.
While the design does not have the "gotta have it" draw that I felt when W211 was announced back in 2002/2003, it is not offensive and will likely be very successful. The interior also looks much better than the prior spy shots. I look forward to seeing it in person and lets hope that they get the reliability right out of the box unlike the early W211 cars.

However, my opinion will be more valid once I see it with my own eyes and touch it with my own hands...

96 and 08 911 turbos
the only thing I mildly approve of is the interior and even that is pushing it.
The column shifter= blowing it
weird nav cover-bumpout thing= blowing it
taillights from an ls460 and headlights from a gs300=blowing it
weird interpretation of the LEDs stolen from Audi=blowing it
Bottom line, this car is a brutal disaster. I love the stately look of the 210, and the mildly sportier look of the 211. Sort of a spiritual predecessor. This car is neither and is really not good.
The 221 I like, and the 204 I like from some angles.
That said, MBs classic styling seems to have gone away.
Another thing I've noticed: Is it more, or do modern MBs need the sport package to look decent? I mean, the 220 and 221 especially look dowdy and common without the sports package, but with the sport package, its like "wow"

Just from seeing all the pictures, I am really glad I bought my car when I did. It does not look like something I would be interested in at all, but maybe it will look better in person.
As for the interior, we already have a BMW 5-Series in the garage. Too bad that BMW is setting the interior trends.

Love the front(other than the goofy two circle foglights on the "sports" package. Interior is perfect, lots of cool features. But unless there is an option to change the rear I don't see myself getting this in a couple of years. I more than likely will move up to s class or cls. But it's going to be very interesting to see the mods people do to it. I really don't see too many mods that could be done.

It's sad the new BMW designs have been so revolutionary and setting in current car styling trends, it's pretty insane M-B has completely bit off of them.
I think my plans (so far) are looking to move up to an S-Class when I'm ready for a new car, although that's too bad because it's bigger than what I'd essentially like to own, and I'm not toooo crazy about its looks, but I still like it enough.

I do like the front end. Twin head lights and fogs look pretty cool. But the rear tail lights do leave a bit to be desired. Agree with most of you rear end kinda looks like a hyundai or camry.
Guess I gotta wait till they start showing up on dealer lots and take a look in person.

I like the new styling. It is different from the W211 and it needs to be. The back is somewhat plain but depending on the color, it might be very interesting in Black, Sport tips, etc.
I am expecting a high standard of quality and evolutionary styling and I think the W212 has succeeded in keeping my business.

Love the front, hate it then on. I think that the best (and it is still not good looking) look is with the 5 spoke. But I was anticipating a lot more from MB...

In the video introduction I noticed something interesting - the grill is no longer part of the hood, like the W204. That takes some getting used to since they have been they was as long as I can remember.

Front looks good with AMG pack, the rear lets the car down massively, but the interior....wow that is absolutely gorgeous. That is the best in class interior out of the 5, A6, or GS.

The interior is really beautiful, even though I'm not a big fan of the "blocky" look usually, it's executed really well IMO.
I just noticed the grill being separated from the hood too. I'm not too crazy about that as it adds a gap right where the hood meets the grille that was always a continuous flow on the older models.
Also, I'm really not a fan at all of the Cadillac copied "crease" going down the middle of the car, really ugly IMO.
All that aside, I'm still trying to get myself to warm up to the car. All the new Safety Features and torsional rigidity stuff are exciting.

All I use my current center console shifter for is park, drive, reverse. Otherwise I'm using the paddles (a lot.) Moving the shifter to the column does free up a lot of needed real estate in the center console. At first I rolled my eyes too, but I think it's a smart move in the long run.
Notice that they are still retaining the large analog 'Mercedes signature' clock...
