Fresh Mods (Rims, Colour-matched Calipers, W221 Taillights, '08 Trunk, DVD Nav, Etc.)
Hey guys,
Here's some pics of the stuff I've had done to my car recently.
New wheels:
Colour-matched brake calipers:
'08+ trunk finisher & w221 tails (smoked & colourmatched)
Panasonic Strada navigation system:
It plays DVDs in motion too:
White gauge faces:
Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions you guys have so please do let me know what you think. :-)
(I still have around 15 things left on my to-do list.)
Later,
Tom

Nice. Where did you get the new tail lights? The only place I've seen those is on eBay and they are only available in black. Did you take them and the brake calipers to a shop to get color matched?

The Tail lights
The 07+ Rear grill
Callipers
Dislikes:
White Gauges
The front grill
Rims (Sorry but chrome doesnt flow well with the car, IMO)
Put the badge back on (e.g. E320 etc)
Unsure:
The new Command thing. (Not sure about it, although i am sure it probably is much more functional)

They painted them to match my car.
The black part was just raw plastic.

rims look great!! i like everything you have done.
i dont know too much about the panasonic unit, do you like it so far? how good is the screen resolution? when i was doing my research i almost bought an eclipse unit but then i started looking at the number of pixels and found kenwood and pioneer had way better resolution. not a huge deal but if you are ever stopped and start watching a dvd you will notice.
keep up the good work, car is looking sharp!

What took you so long to do the mod!? especially on an almost 110k miles vehicle!
I do like the painted calipers, front grille (need to head-on shot), rear trunk finisher, new DVD head unit, white gauges (especially the one with the pop-up rollbar warning) minus the silly looking needles, smoked tail lights look good minus the solid lines.
I don't like the chrome rims and rims that look 'too open.' A 4-door IMO needs 'solid' rims. Yours would look good on a coupe/convertible.
What is the deal with the SRS message??
I really like the shot of the rear. In that light, it makes your paint looks stainless steel (or maybe it just my screen color )
Where on earth did you find one without heated seats

Btw, I like the rims (CLS style. I like open rims, especially if you have nice calipers). Calipers came out nice. Tail lights are "different", but I think you pulled it off nicely.

Where did you get the Stereo install kit for the nav, looks awesome. And how much? I agree with the crowd abt the white gages, Im not feeling them. Rims are great but dont go too well with the vehicle. Love the Calipers and the tail lights. Great Work

Installation alone cost $2500.
(The headunit itself was around $8-900)
So I guess 3,300-3,400 total for the upgrade.

What mod are you talking about?
I've done a lot to this car in the time I've owned it.
SRS message has been there since I got in an accident a few months back.
I got it in Miami. :-)

Did you paint the calipers and if so, what paint did you use, and did you paint them while they were on your vehicle or before you installed them? My calipers and bolts are very rusted and when my brakes are due next time, I plan to buy new calipers and paint them prior to installation.

Ya, I've thought about swapping out my calipers for the E500 ones and the solid piece calipers in the back like on our 02 CL as the E320 doesn't have the nice ones you can paint.

Those taillights actually replaced some fully smoked ones.
I had that star grill put on like a week after I got the car.
I would never drive it with the stock grill.

That's a matter of personal taste.
If you like the look then go for it bro.
Personally I don't think it would look bad at all. :-)

Does anyone have an example of white calipers on a white car? Or white calipers on any car for that matter? Would they look dirty after only a couple miles of driving? I love to ask questions........

Then I refinished them this way : https://mbworld.org/forums/1834858-post3.html
I used a Duplicolor Caliper Paint kit @ $ 24.00. Comes in 3 colors, I used silver obviously.
Been over 2 yrs and the paint has held up great. Meant to put MB decals on them but never got around to it.
Edit: If you decide to buy new calipers, the general consensus is to have them powder coated, rather than painted.
