replacement battery + hose ventilation
I just replaced my OEM battery with an Interstate Battery for my E500. Car works fine but there was a clear plastic hose (slightly smaller than a pinky) connected to the OEM battery (air circulation to atmosphere?) The Interstate Battery doesnt seem to have a similar sized hole. it has an oval hole but its further away. Is the hose important? thanks in advance!

Yes, it's important. Car manufacturers don't install unimportant things.
Lead/acid batteries breathe suphuric acid-laced fumes.
Under the hood of the car it's not such a big deal, but in your trunk it is. The hose directs them to a safe location where they won't cause damage to surrounding parts of the car.
Find a way to vent your new--not made for this car--battery.

I would recommend only an OEM battery.

Most replacement bat's have a plug in the vent hole that the car vent line connects to. Hopefully you kept the male plug on the car vent line that plugs into the aftermarket bat. If the bat you bought really is for a MB it will have the place to plug in the vent.
