too big for a center channel
I think the 3.5 in is too big. I may be mistaken but I believe the center (dash) speaker is smaller.

There is a simple solution to stopping the rattle of the tiny center speaker....
Disconnect it... Use the tools to pop the grille up. Use the torx bit to loosen it, pull the old speaker out and throw it away
Mine started to rattle because the construction of those HK speakers are for ****. I have an 06 and the speaker was made in 02. That tells me that the design hasn't changed and neither has the quality. Mine actually was separated from the basket because of the ****ty construction.
To prove my point I have a set of JBL professional loudspeakers from 1970 in my living room....they play and look PERFECT. 40 years old and still kickin.
Harmon/Mercedes speakers- less than 10 years old and falling apart.
Also- If you have a question on what impedance the loudspeaker is..put a friggin meter on it. you can buy a multimeter from radio shack for $20.
Remember- the less impedance the less the amp has to work to drive the voice coils. However too low impedance and the amp can burn itself out ..you need to make sure the amp is stable at whatever its rated at.

VEGAS HEAT
So the crap speaker was and has been protected. This has nothing to do with heat. And everything to do with crappy craftsmanship..
Put a pair of my JBLs in the sun? Why?That would be plain stupid.
The center channel speaker in the 211 is a pile-o-crap as with most stock car audio speakers.
And if you wanna..lets add the fact that my sons car has a 3800watt system with JBL and Rockford speakers.Sits in the same garage ...been in there since I drove the car and installed the system back in 2004..not ONE single issue with heat/age/abuse. Not crappy construction.
SO payam81 not exactly sure what you're comparing here. Either way I guarantee mines bigger and better.

I was able to solve this issue by pulling off the grill, and cutting out the piece above the speaker. I have attached an image to show you.. #SimpleFix

Didnt need to, it was the speaker touching the grill part making the noise. The speaker looked and sounded like new with the cover off, and the cover put back on after modification. I will suggest this for all W211 owners!
