Replacing Harman Kardon Logic 7 Speakers

I understand this subject has been discussed before. However, after searching through the archives, I found that a lot of the posts were about people upgrading their entire system—removing the original AGW, adding new amps, new subwoofers, new speakers etc. For me, replacing the factory speakers with better quality ones will be sufficient.

I distinctively remember reading that the Bose system uses ‘non-standard’ speakers (only 1 or 2 ohms). However, I can’t seem to find a definitive answer for the HK Logic 7 speakers. I have even looked at the back of a few of the speakers in my car but their specifications are not listed. Does anyone know if they are 1 or 2 ohms like Bose or if they are the normal 4 ohms ones? Can I simply replace them with the common 4 ohms speakers?

Many thanks in advance.

I am almost certain that the hk7 speakers in our 211's are indeed 2 ohms. Like you, I too did extensive searches about these speakers and to no avail on any more available info.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

I am trying to find out the Ohms ratings myself. If you replace them wiht 4 Ohms and the originals were 2 Ohms you will get the volume you had. The HU will have to work harder. If you had 4 Ohms and replace with 2 Ohms you will burn out what ever is driving the speakers since the resistance will be lower. Its important to match the speakers to what ever is driving them.

So I am stuck until I can figure this out. Maybe we have to call Harmon/Kardon.

^^ Didn't know if you referring post to me. But the crappy enter dash speaker is 163 at my local mb dealer. So I'm either going to get a used one or buy a new one with diff. brand and more ohm for about 1/6th of the price.

Ok got it 2 Ohms now I can configure a system. I still may end up replacing the speakers. I want to do the wiring in such a way I can undo the work easily if I need to. I intend to splice a plug on the wire harness just after the AGW. This way I can disconnect and plug an amp into the harness to drive the speakers. I will also have to make a harness from the HU to the AMPs. Is there anything else I shoud be considering?

Carefully release 2 tabs circled in link as explained, pull cover up toward rear and out.

My grill does not split like the one in the picture

Thanks for getting back with me. But the reason why I asked is that my grill does not split and goes all the way down around the heating and AC vents in 1 piece so the clips are not located at points shown in photo.

I'm having the same issue with my 07.
I received my replacement speaker a few days ago. I tried removing the speaker grill a couple of times and mine wouldn't budge! I'm afraid i'm gonna scratch or break something mine is an 07 would that make a difference??? I tried to remove it from the front of the grill. I checked out those pics and they weren't much help. I hate to spend 100 bucks to take it to the dealer to have a $40 speaker installed lol

Why not use a miltimeter to measure the resistance across the voice coil? That would tell you definitively what the impedance of the speaker is.

Thanks for your reply. I actually was able to get the grill off. After listening to the speaker (several CDs and Satellite Radio) I'm
Not hearing the buzzing/distortion that I was hearing earlier it's weird. I did read in a post that another person had the same issue and took their car to the dealer had the speaker replaced and it ended up doing the same thing. I'll have to read that post again to see what they did to fix it. I remember them saying that the dealer put some type of padding in the grill or something. I listened to many of my CDs for about 30 mins and couldn't hear any buzzing with the grill off. I chose to just leave the speaker in and just keep the new replacement one I bought from MB in the box as a back up.

I tried to glue mine back in as well, but still have a rattle. I think the speaker driver gets damaged when the cone floats free. I resigned myself to buying a new one. It fixed the problem and the sound is great.

As others have noted, there does not appear to be any easily sourced alternatives. I bought mine from the dealer. Way over priced.

E class center channel speaker

There is a simple solution to stopping the rattle of the tiny center speaker....
Disconnect it... Use the tools to pop the grille up. Use the torx bit to loosen it, pull the old speaker out and throw it away

Mine started to rattle because the construction of those HK speakers are for ****. I have an 06 and the speaker was made in 02. That tells me that the design hasn't changed and neither has the quality. Mine actually was separated from the basket because of the ****ty construction.

To prove my point I have a set of JBL professional loudspeakers from 1970 in my living room....they play and look PERFECT. 40 years old and still kickin.

Harmon/Mercedes speakers- less than 10 years old and falling apart.

Also- If you have a question on what impedance the loudspeaker is..put a friggin meter on it. you can buy a multimeter from radio shack for $20.

Remember- the less impedance the less the amp has to work to drive the voice coils. However too low impedance and the amp can burn itself out ..you need to make sure the amp is stable at whatever its rated at.

Dont do it

Dont go to buy a ****ty little crap speaker from MB for 120.
Thats about 115 overpriced.

Pull the old one and find a suitable replacement online. Or you can send me 120 and Ill send you a rock in a box. Thats about what the center channel MB speaker is worth.
