What is it on the front strut ?

What is it on the front strut ?
By removing the little plastic cover on top of the front strut (in the engine compartment), I saw a nut secured metal stick that seems to be adjustable (rotate ?). What is it for ? ride height ?

My driver side strut/shock seems making clunk noise when passing over bumps. Problem ?

That is the top of your shock secured by two jam nuts, washer and a bushing. There is a second bushing and washer on the bottom side.

Is it adjustable ?

Heard pop noise from the strut. The shock needs to be replaced ? or simply something is loose ?
