Anyone heard of clearing out the adaptive memory? (Transmission 2-1 bump)
Took my 07 E350 CPO to the dealer today after purchasing it 3 weeks ago. I noticed a minor hesitation, and a minor 2-1 downshift bump when crawling. Service manager and I took it for a ride (he driving, and I riding) and he said that there is an adaptive memory that learns how you drive. The previous owner put 32,000 miles on it, so he said since I drive more conservatively, he'll clear out the adaptive memory, and it will learn how I drive quicker. As a second course of action he said he'll check the transmission fluid.
Anyone ever hear of this adaptive memory?

yes the car has it. to reset it do the following
1. key in position 2
2. completely press gas pedal to the floor for 5 sec
3. turn key to off position and leave key in there for two mins.
the driving style in the TCU will be cleared.

When cleared in SDS, the computer needs to relearn all of the parameters and you will notice a difference. Typically the TCU just needs a little extra time to adjust and it will work out on its own without the need for manually clearing it.

The TCU learns all shifts. The downshifts are considered independent shifts just like the upshifts are, and the TCU attempts to determine how fast to perform operations depending on the output of specific sensors.

that is entirely uncorrect I have to say. You do indeed hear "something" that indicates that this process has been completed. You will hear a click coming from the keyhole it will sometimes shake a keychain attached to the key that is in the ignition if you watch carefully which also produces a sound. Obviously this depends if you have a keychain on your key. In any event, if you listen closely you will hear it after a bit a distinct click from the ignition. I've done this on tons of Mercedes it works on all of them.
