changing leather door inserts
changing leather door inserts
hey there -
is it difficult to change the leather door inserts?
I assume the front isn't too hard, but the rear is difficult (or expensive) because of the air bags.
let me know.
thanks!

your door panels actually come off pretty easily. The each panel has an armrest/switch panel which has a cutout hidden behind it in the open space. Pull that panel off and start there. Each one should take about ten minutes. I've found some great deals lately as I'm trying to switch my tex interior to full leather.
I'm about to pick up 4 leather door panels from an E500 with the sun shades on the second row seat windows and leather front seats for 365 @ a local wrecking yard! As stupid as it may sound, I'm happy for the sunshade upgrade on the 350 as its sort of like a free option.
The whole interior he offered to me for $600 which is pretty awesome but I turned down the rear seats due to some large dimples in the leather that I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with. I'll find rear seats soon enough but this is a good start in the meantime. Good luck with your project.

I'm not trying to change the full door panel -- only the leather "triangle" under the door handle, and above the arm rest -- and the rears have the side-impact airbags in there.
wondering if anyone has experience changing these, rather than the full door panel (which is what it looks like I'm getting replies on).
Thanks!

Leesville autowreckers in rahway NJ talk to Paul Jr. about the E500 Alex is getting the interior from. It was an 05 I believe, they also had another 320 or 350 there. Good luck.

a twotoned look would work if you do charcoal seats and door inserts BUT the entire SRS system in the seats have changed as well...
still - you should get those doorpanels...you will def be able to make money on the rear ones with integrated shades!

Interesting, I didn't know they changed the colors of the black interiors on the W211. What year did they go from Charcoal to Black?

well wait a second let me get this straight. I went down anyway to have a look at the interior and it looks to be in pretty good shape. My question is, are we saying that the tops of the door panels above the trim piece (wood) are a different color black than my dash board or the charcoal leather and the black MB Tex seat colors are different?
If thats the case maybe you misunderstood that my overall goal is to switch the interior to leather so if its charcoal all components will be charcoal because they'll come from the E500 donor. Either this one or another one. As for the SRS, the seats are physically the same, what I will do is have my shop leather guy remove the leather seat covers and put them on my existing seat bodies and just remove the mbtex covers. Like a swap, basically. I'm pretty sure it will all work and look good, but correct me if I'm wrong? Thanks for your help.
Steve, I also have a few other OEM part questions if you have a chance check your email I'd really like to you hear your input. Thanks much.
