Question Navigation software/firmware Update

Is there a way to upgrade the software/firmware in the 2007 COMMAND units for an E-Class?

What are you trying to accomplish? The only update that has been issued after the 46/06 version is one that allows compatibility for satellite radio to tune to some XM channels since the XM/Sirius merger, but it was specifically for the 2008 model cars. It should install in the 2007, but the SDAR unit in the 2007 model probably would not take advantage of the software change.

If you need a map update, you can purchase from www.navteq.com and it installs in your trunk DVD Navi processor.

Actaully, I had the same question.
I have 2007 E550, and updated map to 2009 version, and did not notice any change to the software.
First time I put in updated Nav DVD it went though update and reboot by itself.

I was hoping to get 3D view.

Bird's eye view on the W211 only comes with the NTG2.5 Comand. It came with an update to the 221 but in my opinion the standard map display is better for navigation, the bird's eye view only look nice.

That's good to know.
I was used to 3D view with Garmin Nuvi.
In general, W211 driving instruction is pretty good.

Do you know how to establish bluetooth connection if you turn on the phone after Comand has been on?

If I had the phone on before getting in the car, connection is automatically set.
If I start the car first while phone is off then turn on the phone, it does not connect.

I usually click on TEL button on Command and it establishes a connection.

+1

Pressing TEL while on the TEL screen will reestablish the connection. You can also hold TEL for about 3 seconds when the connection is already established to disconnect it (to make a private call). This must be done when the phone is not in use - otherwise it will hang up the call.

Great info.
I didn't press TEL twice from another screen, and that's why it didn't work.

The only way you can upgrade the MB navigation is to go to a different automobile manufacturer. The MB navigation is archaic. Even the add on types outperform MB.

First post in a long time, but I also have a question.

In my 07 350 I loose the phone book it comes and goes during driving, Anyone else have this. Also, even if the car is off I still get connection through the blue tooth of the car, should it not turn off once the car is off?

Thanks,
John

The car has a few circuits that remain live for a few minutes even after you turn the car off. These circuits "go to sleep" after a few minutes.

You can always push the TEL button before you turn off the car, and this will disconnect the Bluetooth connection as well.

question for iphone users out there, howcome my iphone cant sync with my MB bluetooth for my phonebook? it did at one point in time, but i think it MAY be the firmware version of the iphone? but it may also not be. im not too sure can anybody clear this up for me?
it would be much better for phonebook to sync that way when i get phone calls it doesnt show up as just a number instead of the names etc.
thanks!

Hi, I just bought an 06 E350 and was wondering if you can update the firmware and navigation software with one that doesn't look worn-out or out-dated like the old one..

The map display & all functionality are almost the same thruout the 211's run. They added ETA & refined a point or two over the years, & patched certain operational crashes of the system. The main problem with the display is the colors they chose for "land" roads, water, etc. Thats what makes the map look "Old".

Destination entry & other features are "stiff" & awkward too... but the system will get you there. No routine map/POI update will ever fix these display shortcomings. The unit is already among the walking dead as of MY 2009.

How do I tell what map version and firmware I have on my 08 e350? Honestly the Nav is the worst I have ever seen or used. My 06 Honda blows it away.

Go to the trunk & eject the Map DVD. It has a printed disk with all the info on it.
