Nav with Comand Replacement?

My wife turned off the power in her E500 Comand (radio was on) to take a phone call, when she powered up the entire Comand was dead. We took it to to MB (warranty) and they told us they could not get it to work so are ordering a new Comand replacement from Germany. Does anyone know if a new replacement Comand will have an updated Nav or is the Nav a separate unit that only displays through the Comand screen? Would a new Comand have any other upgrades/differences from original?

Thanks

On an E500 the navi processor would be separate from the head unit. Haven't you actually inserted the navi DVD into the slot at the trunk.

There is a completely new and different Comand unit existing but they would not put that one to your car. The only difference I could think of would be the option to display ETA, unless your old device was already updated to indicate that.

I wonder if the head unit actually was dead and needed replacement but it is difficult prove anything at this point. Sounds like a good reset (not necessarily the head unit alone) would have been sufficient.

Thank you, DB.

No, I rarely drive this car and am embarassed to admit I never asked where the disc was located! I probably should spend a half hour reading her car manual. My drive in my old 2001 is in the unit in a single slot.

They tried several resets, etc. The only way it worked was when they took a different unit from another car and popped it in- then it worked. So they bit the bullet and reordered.
