I would not take the 3 piece. Looks more like a rain gutter!!! Use the one piece trunk spoiler. And if you want use the roof top spoiler in addition. It looks really good on the E Class.

Haha, that's a great image...I so wanted an endorsement for the 3 piece, but perhaps it's not too late to change out. Likely it will be cheaper as well. Roof spoiler huh? Is that OEM?

This is the best deal I could find on a rear spoiler. US$200 unpainted one piece.

http://www.mercedesbenzwheel.com/mer...oiler-198.html

I see it now only $119!!!

P.S. Has been speed tested personally!!!

Not a bad price, even compared to the $49 ones on eBay. Another $100 to paint in in factory colors, and you're only at $250 delivered.

My body shop does a lot of Mercedes and he had my Iridium Silver Metallic paint. He also had a car in the shop for paint with the same color so he only charge me $75 installed!!!! I can not tell the difference from the factory unit once it was painted.

I have never seen an OEM spoiler uninstalled. I think someone told me they were made from a rigid plastic. The one I bought was made from a soft plastic. Dimensionally, there are the same. The softer material requires a little more care in installing but otherwise, one would not know the difference. I was a little skeptical of the mounting tape but the car has hit the limiter on a few occassions and no sign of it coming off or paint cracking.

Hope this helps.

Hit the limiter at 130mph on more than one occassion. She wasn't even breathing hard yet. I am guessing she would do over 170mph with her .27 drag coefficent (same as 2008 Corvette) and without her hobbled ECU.

I wonder how much, if any, downforce is generated by these little spoilers on the trunk.

I would say as a hobbyist and out of my tummy feeling, close to NOTHING!!! Compare spoiler surface areas from Formula 1 cars to the surface area of "our" MB spoilers.

But if someone could provide me the surface area in square cm or square meter I could probably get some results.

I think you're right. These little 'spoilers' are cosmetic devices. Lipstick and mascara.

Don't hold me to this but I remember reading somewhere that it was around 30 or 35 lbs of downforce. I don't remember the speed but I want to say 120mph+.

I know the front lip spoiler adds 20lbs of downforce.

+1. I tested my vehicle with the E63 OEM spoiler and feel its effectiveness especially beyond 80mph through to 135mph;(I cannot presently comment on speeds beyond that.

Yeah, especially with that 6.3 AMG motor (er, badges) you got on those front fenders.
