E Class 3.2 Diesel 2006

rear roof light

after a year of owning my E 320 cdi, I noticed that a portion of the rear roof light opened and closed.

What is this for and why did it happen.

I assume this is what you are referring to if so, it is the internal motion sensor (IMS) for the alarm system.
