Engine filters:
The engine cover on the e320 is in two parts. Remove the front part by tilting up and pulling it up and forward. Remove the large piece over the intake manifold by pulling it up at the corners and it will pull free from the clips. When you look at the snorkel, you will see that the central portion of the tube is corrugated. This is so you can compress it, and slide it off the engine cover. You then slide the snorkel off its attachment at the front of the engine bay. Flip over the cover and there are four Torx T-25 screws holding each of the two air filters inside their respective housings.

Filter element part #1120940604 (for comparison pricing parts.com $33.35)

Cabin filter:
For standard two-zone you will need to replace the dust filter located in the engine compartment https://mbworld.org/forums/3365119-post2.html, optional four-zone replace the two interior carbon filters located under glove box - PM email address and I will forward instruction sheets.

Dust (combination) filter part 2118300018 ($20.12)
Activated charcoal filter 2118300818 ($77.05)

Thank you! Could you tell me the location of the dust filter in the engine dept. Also, I'm assuming i get to the optional filter through the glove box somehow by removing the inside of the glove box.

thanks,
mike

Transmission Flush choices and plugs..

My car has almost 90,000 with missing records from 41-85,000. I went today to see ablout getting the trans service. At first the neighborhood mercedes guy told me they can flush it meaning flush it through and all 16 qt's would remain. When i asked about a filter change he mentioned it could be done for an extra 150.00. He said it didnt need it until the 2nd time i did it is ?? miles.
The dealership said they did one or the other and not both.

I went with just the flush because i need to take it on a trip on monday but i'm wondering if i should have got the filter changed too? Any help is greatly appriciated.

I'm considering having the plugs changed too but, i'm getting 27-30 on the highway so they may be fine...but wanted reccomdation on plugs types too...sorry for the long list.

First we need to establish if you have two- zone or four-zone (digital display) version. The dust filter for two-zone is located at rear of engine compartment on passenger side. Four-zone you will need to remove the lower panel under the glove box.

Here is a copy of the maintenance requirements for your vehicle https://mbworld.org/forums/3294991-post83.html (FSS 04)

It does not list transmission service however, if you view 05-08 you will see MB revised requirement to ATF/filter change @ 39000, view 09 and you will see it was revised again to every 40000 miles. Although 09 recommendation is for 7-speed, it is my opinion that ATF/filter should be changed every 40000 miles whether it be a 5-speed (722.6 which you have) or 7-speed. So to answer your question, since you do not know when or if the ATF was previously changed, both the ATF and filter should have been replaced.

In accordance to maintenance sheet, spark plugs require replacement every 100000 miles or four years therefore I recommend replacement https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...lugs-guys.html

Thanks so much for the help. I enjoy this car and want to make it last.

I also have a 1989 190e and wondered if it had and cabin flters or dust filters on it. I havent had any luck finding info on that.
Also, when i turn on the ac it seems to smell a little like anti freeze or something faintly funny. Not too bothersome but wondered if it was a sign of something.
It has 128,000 and runs pretty well.
thanks,
mike
