COMAND nav versions
My questions are:
1 How far behind is my nav?
2 Would an upgrade improve the look/feel of the nav? What would the benefits be?
3 Is it a single disc (map disc) or do I need a service tech to upgrade the head unit too.
4 Is there an upgrade (software/firmware) to the COMAND head unit?
5 Best way to accomplish upgrade(s). Where to get materials.
I appreciate any advice, I know this topic is popular here, I hope you guys can help.
Thanks, TOMORO
If you feel the Nav info is "outdated", I'd have the dealer install the new disk & update the head unit software at the same time. That way you will eliminate conflicts of software in the trunk and dash, since it will be your 1st update. If they note a problem they'll make sure everything is updated. You'll also now have the option to display ETA to your destination at the bottom of your screen if your car doesn't already have that option. These NAVs are not cutting edge, but the will get you there.
These cars are finicky when it comes to updating anything. My policy is not to update unless necessary. You'll find that you won't need to update the NAV disk again unless you live in a rapidly developing area. I had an '04 & then an '07 & the look & feel between the 2 are the same. There is only 1 DVD in the trunk for all available map coverage.
Welcome to the board. Have a look around & hang out!
