The E55 AMG is different. It's the 469 horsepower version of the E-Class! Here's some info on the car:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...l?keywords=E55
If that gets your attention, you might want to go out and buy the current (March) issue of Car and Driver, which has a road test article on the E55 in addition to a separate road test article on the E500 taking first place over six other cars in its class.
Here's a photo of the E55 AMG smoking 'em off the line!!!(from the March, 2003 Car and Driver):

ARE YOU SERIOUS?
I AM NOT TRYING TO BE HARSH BUT, WHAT ON EARTH GIVES YOU THE IDEA THAT A 2004 E500 IS GOING TO BE RENAMED E55 AMG?
You just posted in both the E500 section and the E55 section and now you ask if the cars are one in the same - why would this board have two sections about the same car? Did you read the article that rickyfanmdr kindly provided for you eventhough you posted a question that is really from another planet! I did not know that the mental ward had internet access? That is great!
rickyfanmdr, replied to you:
"The E55 AMG is different. It's the 469 horsepower version of the E-Class!"
And you still ask:
"So you are basicly saying 2004 E-500 won't be the E55 AMG ?"
I responded to your previous post and told you that the 2004 E500 will not be built until after July 2003 and they 'should' be in showrooms in the Fall of 2003. So the prices and the options have not be set nor published.
That Edmunds article is about future "all brand new" models that did not exist in 2003 thus far. The E320 & E500 sedan will not be "all brand new" models for 2004, they will just be carry-over models. However the E320 may have a slightly larger engine and be the E350. Please don't ask us the price of the E350 nor it's options - we don't know.

However, I understand Kev's frustration. This is no different than people asking daily about the E Navi situation without running a search for all the threads/replies that have been posted in the last 30 days.

I try my best to properly inform enlighten and have a little fun on this board and 99% of my posts are to help (I hope) but sometimes we all have a bad bay and some obvious, obvious questions can even make the Pope go ballistic.

sl and M-class E320 4Matic SLK350
Car and Driver feature on E320
Actually the Car and Driver March issue comparing 6 cars was comparing the E320 rather than the 500. They really liked the air suspension feature which of course is standard on the 500 (and optiional on the 320) and concluded it is a must have option for anyone considering the 320. Just curious, with gas prices expected to go over $2 a gallon it will be interesting to see if the E320 might just end up being the more desirable E Class, especially in California and the other 3 states that won't be getting the new diesel E. I recall back during the days of gas rationing the Mercedes Dealers couldn't get enough 240D 's while all the bigger engine cars were clogging their lots. It is frankly embarrasing that the E500 can't escape the gas guzzler tax and that members on this forum have reported actual miles per gallon with the E500 to be at least 5mpg less than even the posted mpg for both city and highway driving. Can't help but wonder if the delay in bringing out the E350 is because of a concern that it will cut into sales of the more profitable E500. As I recall the horsepower difference between the new 370 sized engine on the E350 and the E500 are much closer than one would expect.

Re: Car and Driver feature on E320
In terms of gas mileage, I am getting pretty much what is advertised. I am averaging 19 mpg with a mix of travel. Quoted figures are 16mpg city and 23 mpg highway. There must be something wrong on those other people's mileage. Maybe those were " instantaneous" mileage. I doubt that those figures were based on a whole tank of gas. Sorry to digress from the thread.

I am happy with the mileage. It is actually better than I expected.
