But I notice that this car handles a lot better than my E350. Esp the steering. It's a lot less numb and feels much more precise. The steering in the E350 drove me crazy. It seemed overboosted.
But does your E350 have Airmatic at all? I thought Airmatic option was discontinued in the US (except the models that have it standard)?

From EPC it appears that there are front and rear suspension parts with option code 486, most likely included in your E63AMG. I interpret that the actual air spring is the same front and rear but the shocks are different (at the front the shocks are just an integrated part of the strut).

Can you confirm that the E550 does not reduce suspension height when the car is stationary and engine running (between standard/comfort and sports settings)? If yes, you should actually compare the cars at a higher speed where the Airmatic lowers the car (quite impossible to compare though).

I believe face lift cars actually lower the suspension in two steps but I cannot remember any figures, someone explained those at the forum too.

Anyway this is one of the advantages of Airmatic, the car does not sit low when you have to park it and drive over curbs etc. Of course if the looks was the main thing, it is unfortunate that the car does not stay low at the Sports setting.

2008 Mercedes Benz E550 AMG Sport Package
One must also remember that the AMG sport package for the E550 is supposed to ride almost an inch lower than an E550 without it. My car does not change ride height unless the car is running. It is a 2008.

P.S. The photo in my sig is with the suspension raised to clear the driveway curb, which, if I remember correctly is almost two inches. It always stays in sport mode vs. comfort if that makes a difference. Not sure what Sport Ride stiffness it is set at when this photo was taken.

Interesting thread. My E550, '07, sports package, seems to sit lower than both the cars pictured on this thread (granted one is intentionally raised). Here's a pic...front wheel is kind of obscured by shadow but you can see the rear wheel height. It's like that most of the time, parked or not.

One thing I have noticed is that it sits almost comically high when I change the tires (winter/summer). After I jack it up and rotate the tires, it sits up like a monster truck. A quick drive remedies that aspect.

Also...this is verbatim from the MB Canada 2007 E-class brochure...take what you will from it. This is regarding the Sports package (not AMG Sports package).

"On the technical side, the Sport Package makes its mark with a lower slung chassis and a powerful-sounding dual pipe exhaust system with oval stainless steel tailpipes"

Dr.DrilZ - mine does not sit that high ever, unless I actively raise it. ??

I'm pretty sure that quote about lower slung chassis is referring to the E350 and not the 550?

It doesn't specify. Given the air suspension height is adjustable, it could apply to both?

this is an old thread and i didnt buy that particular car shown in the pics. but i did buy another 09 e550 and i am still convinced that it sits higher than a comparable e350. ive never seen my car in motion so i cant compare how they look when on the road. also, the ride height varies from day to day when i look at in in the garage. some days it looks more 4x4, some days it sits just right.

I've always noticed the V8 E-Classes with Airmatic sitting a little higher than the E350 Sports.
