Windshield sunshade

I feel like such an old man asking this question....but, does anyone use one of those windshield sunshades? If so, any recommended brands or types that fit the windshield of a 2007 E class? I figure it will help keep the car cooler when it sits in a parking lot in the sun and protect the inside from sun through the windshield. Thanks

Whats so old man about a sunshade?

Us young folk don't like to burn our hands on the steering wheel or on our a** while sitting on hot leather.

I use these. Excellent quality, easy to use. A very small company in Sunnyvale, CA.

ps, just to clarify, they are also a defense contractor making aircraft components. But still a very small company.

are they actually fit to match your windshield? They have a huge selection of Mercedes applications; wouldnt mind buying one if it was made to fit perfectly

Great suggestion! I think i'm going to order one from there.

I'm using an older one that I have and it doesn't fit quite right.

Does it really work as well as it claims (ie: up to 40 degrees cooler, 25 degrees cooler on average)? Seems like it's some film (both reflective and non-reflective) laminated onto some foam.

How durable is this sunshade? Will it withstand many years of rolling and unrolling (or will it fall apart right after the 2 year warranty expires)?

How much are they (ball park figure is fine, I'd just like to know before I consider it)?

The fit is fine. I've had them for other cars, too. They always covered enough area and were tight enough.

Chokaay: Never measured the temp etc., I'm not that extreme about it, but yeah it keeps keep the car cool. The last one I had lasted 5 or so years until I left it behind somewhere after using it as a reflector for a photo shoot.

Rolls up nice with a velcro tabbed strap. It's not noisy and it's rigid enough but still flexible enough.

Call them up and ask them questions. The company itself is called Canvas Works. They make heat shields primarily for jets and helicopters. The car stuff is just an extra. USA made (since they are a defense contractor)http://www.usstuff.com/carshade.htm

Way better than the Chinese made Pep Boy/AutoZone stuff, imho.

I use the OEM shade and have been very pleased with it. The silver part gets extremely hot on a mid 90's day. No more finger burn with the keyless go!

I have a spring loaded one that fits well, and stores in the door pocket. My wife has a permanently mounted one (don't remember the brand) that pulls across. It's made of some sort of balloon fabric.

Here in SoFla, you cannot live without tinted windows and a sunshade when you park the car.

The OEM one looks like it's made by Covercraft. See link link:

http://www.autoanything.com/driving-...A1228A0A0.aspx

I've had the Covercraft ones on several cars and they last years and years. I would not get a roll-up type because you're always going to wrestle with trying to unfurl it before it curls up on you.

Covercraft are great, too. They're made in Anaheim CA. I was also going to mention them, but I don't use a Covercraft anymore.

It's a personal thing but I didn't like the accordion style as I found it awkward. Esp in my 993 Porsche with a small cabin area. But I've used them in the past in other cars.

Canvas Works does not curl up on you, the material is rigid yet very pliable. In the Porsche I could just hold it up to the windshield rolled and then simply unroll it across the windshield. Less of a hassle in a smaller space. But it will not fold flat like Covercraft (although is still very small when curled up.)

Both are great. And to the OP: don't fret too much, it's just a windshield cover.

ps, somebody mentioned keyless-go and the hot metal button from sitting in the sun. I used to kinda hold the button until the car started just out of habit (like holding a key turned while the car cranks), but noticed that with your foot on the brake, all you need is a very, very quick tap and it will start. That half a second never burns my fingers......

go to costco! they have two sizes available. Get the extra large ones. These are the fabric type that foldup into an 8 inch diameter circle. Covers the entire windshield for 15 bucks and includes two side mesh/shade covers.

i use OEM sunshade, but ive also always tinted the entire front windshield with 50% tint to keep temp down inside.....also keeps glare of lights down and starring at night. 50% is light enough to not attract attention but nice for the UV and heat protection

You can find the same or similar at Wally World, K-Mart, Autozone, etc. The spring-loaded ones have the advantage of folding into the small 8 inch circle and stowing in the door pocket. While some of the others may cover slightly more area, they present a storage challenge.

Yes 2 one in the front and one in the back.

I also have been known at times to use a movers blanket to cover the windows at work if I can't get it in the parking garage.

I have always used an accordion style shade on other cars and I can’t say I have a favorite style in comparison. The fit is near perfect and lets minimal light in on the sides. Overall I’m satisfied and I definitely feel a difference in temperature when climbing into the car after work.

Ditto to that. I bought the OEM for the E320 and have since ordered 3 Covercrafts for other cars. To my eye, they are identical except for the Mercedes logo on the one from the dealer. BTW, 1 of the other car shades is slightly mis-measured but the other 2 are perfect.

Where do you store it when you have four people in the car? In the trunk, rear shelf, or ?
