2004 E 320
Question Buying E 320 2004 model

Dear Members,

I am new to the community. I right now own, Infinity G35x 2008 model and I am paying 625 bucks a month.

I want to cut down on costs and so I decided to switch cars and buy a pre owned mercedes.

I found 2004 E 320 very tempting with 18K price tag and it has 44K miles. I never bought a used vehicle before. Can someone please advice if buying this car with those miles is good or not. I know and understand that every vehicle is different but, over all do you guys think, it needs any heavy maintenance and so forth.

Also, if I want to buy warranty, can someone please suggest good vendors that provide this?

Any help is very much appreciated.

I think moswt here would tend to reccommend that you look at the newest E that you can afford. They became progressively more reliable with time

I won't buy a used luxury car without warranty. Unless you're a good mechanic, the repair cost could be very high. I bought a 2004 E500 CPO back in 2007. There were a few major repairs done to it since I bought it; I'm glad that the repairs were covered under CPO warranty, otherwise it could had been totaling $7k out of my pocket.

Pull up carfax and check the build date of the car (the later the better). Mine was an 02/04 build but still suffered from glycol contamination and required replacing transmission and bunch of other stuff, but it was covered under CPO warranty. I'd only get MB Starmark warranty.

Honestly, I love the car though. It may not be as powerful as a 500, but it still packs some punch (however, I always reset my throttle computer every few hundred miles).

I have a '03 E320. Since owning it, the only repairs needing doing under warranty, right front ball joint, and left front door I/R sensor. I have had no problems at all and thoroughly love the car. I do however, suggest purchasing an extended warranty that gives the most coverage, you never know when and how big the problem will be if a gremlin shows up. But that's just good sense regardless what pre-owned car you buy. Good Luck

my wife wild, but she loves every minute of it.
Is the car at a dealer? They will have two flavors of used cars - some are "Certified Pre-Owned," or CPO. Go for the CPO, and buy a Starmark warranty that will cover you for a reasonable time. A 2004 will have some part of the original warranty - be VERY picky during that period and have anything corrected while under the original warranty. Enjoy the car. The E-class is arguably the best sedan in the world.

Also, the 2004 models offered the best choice of options and features. Go to the research section of cars.com and you will see. After 04 model year, MB started decontenting and removed many options.
