Operating the Comand System
Operating the Comand System
I just traded my '04 545i BMW for an '07 E350 CPO. A stark difference in power, but I got just what I wanted in the E350. My question is how do I get the voice comand to work. I have gone in an individualized the system and saved both of the 2-step process. Can someone now tell me what I should do next in order to get it to work.

I assumed he was talking about a W212 at the 212 section. Now that I realise it is a 211, voice control must be activated from a separate stalk close to the steering wheel.
I don't know how it is with US cars but voice control is an option in Europe also for the W211 (any model year).
Since it is a W211, the features may not be explained in the Comand manual, a separate manual should exist then.

2009 W211s have 'enhanced voice control' as standard equipment. Works quite well and makes the system basically hands-free. In the US, everything is explained in the additional COMAND manual that accompanies the owner's manual.
I think in 2006 it was an option(?) As DB says, it's activated by a stalk on the right side of the steering wheel.
Anyway, the OP needs to ask this in the W211 forum to get the answer.......

I appreciate the info and the education on W212 vice W211. The comand system manual doesn't really give any instruction on the use of voice comand. I'm certainly to exhaust all means available to me before bothering others. I'll got to W211 block to see if I can get the info.

It is in the right section now. The thread started at the 212 section, a mod must have moved it to the right home.
Anyway, I have a copy of a separate, specific VCM user guide. Can it be part of the Comand manual too?
Edited: OK, I see while I was typing, amdeutsch explained what happened to the thread...

Pull the stalk towards you, after it beeps say "Help", it will list available commands....
The voice control before Laungtronic (NGT2.5 or newer) is somewhat useless. You can basically say radio, cd, navigation, station number, say a phone number, or store a voice tag (like older cell phones). It will not reconize a name and "read" it from the phone book. It is completely useless with navigation commands....

I finally figured out the basic operation of the voice comand, now it's behaving exactly the way you just explain. When I instruct it to call a name, it only goes to the first name listed in the phone list. Is it difficult to install the Loungtronic NGT2.5 or newer versions?
On the command scroll thru the phone book, select a name, then using the comand soft keys record the name into the head unit. Mine works all the time.
I did that and it still just go to the first name in phone list. I'm going to reset is and start from scratch and what happens then. Thanks for the info...I'll post the outcome of my starting from scratch attempt.
